Historia
Myrlie Louise Beasley met Medgar Evers on her first day of college. They fell in love at first sight, married just one year later, and Myrlie left school to focus on their growing family. Medgar became the field secretary for the Mississippi branch of the NAACP, charged with beating back the most intractable and violent resistance to black voting rights in the country. Myrlie served as Medgar’s secretary and confidant, working hand in hand with him as they struggled against public accommodations and school segregation, lynching, violence, and sheer despair within their state’s “black belt.”

This is a great love story about an underappreciated civil rights leader and his family. It’s beautiful, sad, inspiring, and the outcome, unfortunately, was inevitable.

TD JAKES DOEST NARRATE HIS BOOK ON SPEAKING
Revisado: 04-21-21
I’m extremely disappointed that bishop jakes, one of the best speakers that ever lived, doesn’t narrate his book on how to become a good communicator.
This book opens with a introduction read by bishop, which to me felt like I was being tricked into thinking he would read the entire book. He doesn’t 😠
I’ll get the hardback book instead. I can’t bear listen to this version of the book. I’m returning this audio version.

Historia
Emerging science is showing that cholesterol levels are a poor predictor of heart disease and that standard prescriptions for lowering it, such as ineffective low-fat/high-carb diets and serious, side-effect-causing statin drugs, obscure the real causes of heart disease. Even doctors at leading institutions have been misled for years based on creative reporting of research results from pharmaceutical companies intent on supporting the $31-billion-a-year cholesterol-lowering drug industry.

Review from a vegan
Revisado: 02-19-20
I liked this book a lot more than I thought I would. I appreciate the authors holistic view on heart-health versus only focusing on diet. I eat a completely plant based diet, so many of the authors stated reasons for eating animals I obviously don’t agree with. One example would be their recommendation to eat omega 3 fatty acids from wild caught fish. These can also easily be found in plants like chia seeds, leafy greens and flax seeds instead of eating wild caught fish which they never mention in this book.
There is a lot of confusion about what causes heart disease. This books says refined sugar, stress and not fat while many studies and other books point to fat. Eating a whole food plant based diet alleviates the need to worry about these factors(except stress) because this way of eating naturally includes minimum-to-moderate amounts of both fat and refined sugar.
The last thing I’ll say is that I appreciate the authors clarity on what carbs are bad for us instead of demonizing all carbs as some people tend to do. They make it clear that fruit, beans, vegetables etc should be a large part of your diet (especially vegetables) and to stay clear of processed foods and refined sugar.

Conversations with God, Book 3 is the final book of the original three-book series. As was written in the introduction to Book 1, it deals with “universal truths to the highest order, and the challenges and opportunities of the soul.” In Book 3, the dialogue expands to include more about the nature of God, about love and fear, about who we are and who we may become, and about the evolution of the human species that is about to take its place in the universal neighborhood.

Disappointed
Revisado: 04-25-19
I was disappointed with this book. I had a hard time getting through it because the pearls of wisdom are hidden within a very long and uninspiring parable. This could have been an incredible book if it was a concise, straight-forward instructional manual for mastering your mornings.
Two stars for the wisdom sprinkled throughout the story.
