Historia
Romania, 1989. Communist regimes are crumbling across Europe. Seventeen-year-old Cristian Florescu dreams of becoming a writer, but Romanians aren’t free to dream; they are bound by rules and force. Amidst the tyrannical dictatorship of Nicolae Ceaușescu in a country governed by isolation and fear, Cristian is blackmailed by the secret police to become an informer. He’s left with only two choices: betray everyone and everything he loves—or use his position to creatively undermine the most notoriously evil dictator in Eastern Europe.

MY FAVORITE BOOK

this is absolutely incredible. I could not put it down/stop listening. intense, suspenseful, it she's light on something in history that is never covered in school. absolutely amazing.

Historia
In the dead of night, a truck arrives in Slaughterville, a small town curiously named after its windowless slaughterhouse. Seven mysterious kids with suitcases step out of the vehicle and into an abandoned home on a dead-end street, looking over their shoulders to make sure they aren't noticed. But Ravani Foster covertly witnesses their arrival from his bedroom window. Timid and lonely, Ravani is eager to learn everything he can about his new neighbors: What secrets are they hiding? And most mysterious of all...where are the adults?

I adored this story! quirky and surprising, it's a great story about friendship, found family, and bullies.

Historia
This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of Underland, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence. Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers - precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.

Meh.
Revisado: 02-15-23
I love the idea of this, but the execution reads a lot like bad fanfiction. Alyssa is very Mary-Sue, she's perfectly "imperfect" - I haaaaate that Jeb calls her "skater girl" - she's "weird" but also gorgeous, has a job at a vintage store, skateboards, and is a fantastic artist. And two boys love her, even though she's "weird". I actually really liked Morphius - the only character with legitimate flaws. Again, I love the idea - just like... a sixteen year old might have written it.

Historia
When Donovan left his copy of The Adventurers on the kitchen counter, he didn't think his mom would read it—much less have a problem with it. It's just an adventure novel about two characters trying to stop an evil genius...right? But soon the entire town is freaking out about whether the book's main characters are gay, Donovan's mom is trying to get the book removed from the school curriculum, and Donovan is caught in the middle. Donovan doesn't really know if the two boys fall in love at the end or not—but he does know this: even if they do, it shouldn't matter.

An amazing and important story that all parents of young people should read. it's short, but sweet and lovely, and I couldn't listen fast enough. narrators were not my favorites - might be a better physical read.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Historia
Beelzebub, the prince of demons, is bored. It's his destiny to one day rule the dark underworld known as the Red Realm, but it's sooo boring down there. All he wants to do is lay around all day in the lava pits (ahhh), boss everyone around (rude!), and maybe play a cruel prank (or two). But Beelzebub's father has had it with his son's nasty attitude. No one backtalks the Red King. NO ONE. A disgraced Beelzebub is banished by his father and cursed to spend his days in the worst place either of them can imagine. EARTH.

great premise, rushed execution
Revisado: 02-03-22
the performance itself is amazing - the idea is fantastic but it feels like it's trying to be an eighth grade and a third grade book at the same time. I wanted him to have middle school friends and an experience. it is super rushed. but I loved Beezer as a character. I wanted it to be better and more middle school geared. a+ performances though
