Historia
The year is rapidly drawing to an end, Hettie the tortoise is hibernating and Agnes, Charlie, Marshall, and the other elderly residents of Sunset Hall are going stir-crazy at home. They’ve had enough of the broken boiler, drafty bedrooms, and Christmas jingles on the radio. And to top it off, another series of murders is rocking the hamlet of Duck End. It seems like every villager and his dog is trying to make up for all of the thwarted murders of the past thirty years.

Revisado: 09-22-24
I soooo enjoyed this book! It's funny. suspenseful, and the performance is wonderful. If you are looking for something light and a read that will keep you interested, this is it. Begin, however, with the Sunset Years of Agnes Sharp. You will have hours and hours of good listening/reading.

Historia
It is 1922, and London is tense. Ex-servicemen are disillusioned; the out-of-work and the hungry are demanding change. And in South London, in a genteel Camberwell villa, a large silent house now bereft of brothers, husband, and even servants, life is about to be transformed, as impoverished widow Mrs. Wray and her spinster daughter, Frances, are obliged to take in lodgers.

OMGosh! This is a Masterpiece of Suspense!
Revisado: 09-09-24
This is one the most edge-of-your-seat, descriptive, suspenseful audiobooks I have ever read. It is utterly unpredictable with twists and turns and a spaghetti bowl of stuff happening. performed beautifully...just WOW!

Historia
Moving back through the 1940s, through air raids, blacked-out streets, illicit partying, and sexual adventure, to end with its beginning in 1941, The Night Watch tells the story of four Londoners - three women and a young man with a past - whose lives, and those of their friends and lovers, connect in tragedy, stunning surprise, and exquisite turns, only to change irreversibly in the shadow of a grand historical event.

Anyone watch Dateline? Sometimes there is a twist coming that you simply cannot predict. Affinity is like that. I knew pretty much what was going to happen in general, but the way it happened was a surprise. Great, suspenseful, emo book! This is my second Sarah Waters book. I just bought the third.

Nicely-told story of love, obsession, betrayal, and healing
Revisado: 07-26-24
I was hooked from page 1. I had seen the film or series or whatever it was. As usual, the book was soooo much better. This book is full of sex but not romantic or sexy. Mostly, Tipping is about discovery, remaking ones-self, and letting go. The performer is quite good, does a dandy job with accents, and really brings the whole story alive.

This book is beautifully written with a taut, intense plot on top cooking hot and a bread-crumb tra subplot happening underneath. In the end, it all surfaces and the reader is faced with a whole host of intense feelings. I loved it.

Historia
Bill Bryson once again proves himself to be an incomparable companion as he guides us through the human body - how it functions, its remarkable ability to heal itself, and (unfortunately) the ways it can fail. Full of extraordinary facts (your body made a million red blood cells since you started reading this) and irresistible Bryson-esque anecdotes, The Body will lead you to a deeper understanding of the miracle that is life in general and you in particular. As Bill Bryson writes, "We pass our existence within this wobble of flesh and yet take it almost entirely for granted."

The Women is ok, I guess. There is some action. It's predictable. As a person who was alive during the Vietnam Conflict, I do understand the importance of the history. I wondered if this is someone's true story. It's ok...I guess.

Historia
Inspired by her research for the hit podcast Ultra, Rachel Maddow charts the rise of a wild American strain of authoritarianism that has been alive on the far-right edge of our politics for the better part of a century. Before and even after our troops had begun fighting abroad in World War II, a clandestine network flooded the country with disinformation aimed at sapping the strength of the U.S. war effort and persuading Americans that our natural alliance was with the Axis, not against it.

Maddow is amazing as a researchers, a scholarship, a writer, and a narrator. I loves the way she drew parallels between then and now without saying anything about now. I bought the hardback for a friend for his birthday and the audible book for my brother for his birthday.

They couldn't believe it was happening...
Revisado: 03-16-24
...because there are no such thing as vampires. I read this book more than 40 years ago. It scared me half to death! I listened to the audible version to see if it was as good as I remembered. It was. I wasn't as scared this time. But I also didn't listen at night or when I was alone in the house. Stephen King is the master of scare. This was one his best. Loved it!
