Historia
Six months ago, the world ended. The Baugh Contagion swept across the planet. Its victims were left twitching, adrenalized cannibals that quickly became know as Junkies. Civilization crumbled as people created isolated safe havens to hide from the infected... and the possibly infected. Now, as society nears a tipping point, lives will intersect and intertwine across two days in a desolate city.

Enjoyed it more than the first book
Revisado: 02-28-23
It is the second book from this series so I knew what I was expecting. I enjoyed it more than the first book. Maybe because the villain character has more depth. It doesn't have twists or surprises, but if you want a detective book, it is a fine choice.

Historia
While investigating Blackston’s recent activities, FBI Agent Jeremy Winter stumbles upon a string of missing persons within state parks. Unable to convince his boss that Blackston’s disappearance is anything other than a lost hiker, Winter joins forces with a local police officer to continue the search. As the clues mount, a dark figure from Jeremy’s past emerges with an ultimatum - one that could force him out of the bureau. Afraid that his girlfriend, fellow agent Maggie Keeley, will be dragged into a high-stakes political game, he delays his decision.

typical detective story
Revisado: 02-28-23
I liked it. Easy listen, predictable stories for characters. The mighty detective with a terrible personal life. The need to rescue the world. The villains are sketched as humans, behind the villainy things they do. An easy book to listen to while in traffic.

Historia
In 2009, the U.S. unemployment rate approached ten percent. Today, when new work is found, it may not be traditional. Studies estimate half of the American workforce will soon consist of freelancers, consultants, independent contractors, entreprenuers, "electronic immigrants", and so forth. Are you ready for the new normal? Dan Miller has seen it coming for years. But 48 Days to the Work You Love, is not so much about finding a new job as it is learning about who we are really called to be.

good if you need a confidence boost
Revisado: 08-30-18
Disclaimer: I didn't finish it. I stopped short at the 9th chapter.(from 13)
I was expecting some advice on the idea of coming to terms with yourself about not becoming the president of the country and starting to enjoy everyday work as part of life, not as a dreadful event that occupies half of a day.
It is not that. It is more a how-to-market-yourself in this environment and day book. And that's why I stopped. I believe that if you aren't satisfied with your life, changing your outside choices(job/family/clothes/hair) doesn't always help. You might get the best job in the world, but it can still not offer you the satisfaction you are craving.
It has common sense advice. And I guess it is good if you are between jobs and you feel down about your abilities.
Didn't enjoy the music some chapters end with.
Oh, and don't expect a 40 days programme.(at least it didn't have any until the 9th chapter) It just offers opinions and general advice about how to find a job. And then another job. And so on. Also sound advice of not waiting for jobs just because you applied for some, but to actively search and ask for feedback. How to write a resume. How to be a hustler.(in a good way)
What I liked: the idea of thinking if you have a job, a career or a vocation. Because money is not always the main incentive.

dark chic lit?
Revisado: 08-30-18
I didn't really know what to expect: a "girl from the train" type or the classic chic lit with a little twist?
well, it was too dark for my taste. Couldn't feel the struggles of the main characters(maybe it's because I didn't find a treasure under sea). Asked myself over and over: why don't they come clean and just go to the police. Hated the ending and all that mental talk.
To be short: a good girl can turn bad if enough cash is involved.

everyone makes mistakes
Revisado: 11-26-17
and if a relationship is not working, probably it won't work in the future either. these two things remained in my mind after listening the book. first the disclaimer: I read books for pleasure and the literary critic in me acts only from subjective points of view. I didn't like the story. I struggled to continue listen to it. the twists were unexpected until I was bored with so many twists. I didn't like the characters either as I found them stuck in the same attitude over and over again. also some.parts of the story were thrown in and I couldn't understand if it was just for the writers fun or I should search for a meaning in them. but if you have enough patience you might see some psychological patterns and how childhood can affect your decisions as an adult.

Dark chic-lit
Revisado: 11-21-15
The story revolves around the girl who has it all, but it's not happy. And continues with glimpses from her past to understand her inside turmoil, while her decisions shift as she decides to do what she should have done a lot time ago: tell her story out loud.
It has a happy end, but not the classic one.
Kept me curious and wanting to hear more.

Historia
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

The next story after 14
Revisado: 11-21-15
Nice, clean writing. The story keeps you wanting to find more. Hated the way one of the female characters was swearing every other phrase on the last chapters. But I guess it's all about personality. :)
Liked it very much.
The green cockroaches become a pattern for the story as the squirrel is for Ice Age.

Common sense advice
Revisado: 10-25-15
I didn't read it at once. I started it, left it for some months, came back and continued.
I remember just the feeling that she is right: the advice is about some thoughts that we should think often: take every day at a time, forgive yourself, try to become better, be happy with your direction.
I don't find the book a big discovery, but it might help some people out there. At least as a reminder that nobody is perfect or happy all the time.
