Cancel culture is a new phenomenon, and The Canceling of the American Mind is the first book to codify it and survey its effects, including hard data and research on what cancel culture is and how it works, along with hundreds of new examples showing the left and right both working to silence their enemies.

Excellent Information... Poorly Read
Revisado: 05-26-24
“The Canceling of the American Mind” is a bit high-brow, some data heavy, but a lot on the mark. Lukianoff and Schlott’s drill down into today’s phenomenon--including examples--was riveting and so right. Their viewpoint on the lack of our collective intellectual humility is not only correct but their suggestions on how to solve the problem are spot on. Too that will never happen… Too bad the narration was a bit monotone.

Historia
Many famed music producers are known for a particular sound that has its day. Rick Rubin is known for something else: creating a space where artists of all different genres and traditions can home in on who they really are and what they really offer. He has made a practice of helping people transcend their self-imposed expectations in order to reconnect with a state of innocence from which the surprising becomes inevitable. Over the years, he has learned that being an artist isn’t about your specific output, it’s about your relationship to the world.

Historia
What happens when the President of the United States governs one Tweet at a time? When the elected leader of the free world may not have a firm grasp on the names of government agencies, much less an understanding of their intricate inner-workings? In the days following the 2016 inauguration, government personnel searched for answers that didn’t exist, while White House staff scoured halls for employees who would never be appointed.

So Eye-Opening!
Revisado: 08-25-22
“The Fifth Risk” is definitely a must-read, but only if you’re willing to absorb what Lewis offers with an open mind, i.e, no knee-jerk judgement calls. Simply take the information in, mull it around in your mind, and then form your own opinion. I learned a lot about the intricacies and challenges of presidential administration transitions as well as how several never-really-think-about-it parts of the U.S. Government make my and my family’s lives easier every day.

Historia
Let Love Rule is a work of deep reflection. Lenny Kravitz looks back at his life with candor, self-scrutiny, and humor. Let Love Rule covers a vast canvas stretching from Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant, Los Angeles’ Baldwin Hills, Beverly Hills, and finally to France, England, and Germany. It’s the story of a wildly creative kid who, despite tough struggles at school and extreme tension at home, finds salvation in music. We see him grow as a musician and ultimately a master songwriter, producer, and performer.

Must... must... MUST Read!
Revisado: 10-15-20
This beautiful story by a beautiful individual enthralled me from the first word. Lenny reading his story made for a compelling read that I didn't want to end. His voice and emotional tone made me feel like I was living the history by his side. The song samples were icing on the top!

Historia
Kathleen "Kick" Kennedy was the incandescent life force of the fabled Kennedy family, her father's acknowledged "favorite of all the children" and her brother Jack's "psychological twin". She was the Kennedy of Kennedys, sure of her privilege, magnetically charming, and somehow not quite like anyone else on whatever stage she happened to grace.

Billy Hartington
What about Eliza Foss’s performance did you like?
The dulcet ebb and flow of her voice kept the story moving and continuingly interesting.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. I listened to it while power walking over several days.
Any additional comments?
A great listen despite already knowing the tragic ending.

Revisado: 04-22-16
If you could sum up Radical Honesty: How to Transform Your Life by Telling the Truth in three words, what would they be?
Worth a listen.
Who was your favorite character and why?
As a non-fiction, Brad was my favorite because of his honesty. Ironic, huh?
What about Brad Blanton’s performance did you like?
His honesty more than makes up for the sometimes poor audio quality.
What did you learn from Radical Honesty: How to Transform Your Life by Telling the Truth that you would use in your daily life?
Show your anger in an adult manner when it happens as opposed to letting it stew inside.
