Historia
All of the incredibly powerful high mages died out centuries ago. Nobody expected one to return. I was just a simple blacksmith apprentice when a visit by the mages of Essalin confirmed what I’d long suspected—I could touch the aether. Destined to be a mage, I’m plucked from my village alongside a feisty redhead so we could journey to the fabled city of the high mages to learn how to control and wield the aether. The road there isn’t going to be easy though.

could do without the sexual tension
Revisado: 04-18-25
I love the story but hated the unnecessary sexual tension and innuendos. It seems like it will be turning into a harem story in future volumes. I had to skip several chapters of unnecessary dialog that cringed. You have a coming of age story where young adults are coming into their own and developing their elemental. magical powers. You have a mysterious background for the MC who is becoming overpowered. You have adventures while travelling to magic academy. You even have a few "wow" moments. All are my favorite story elements. Over all, it is a simple story without any complicated plots or surprises.
I will not be continuing the series but only because of the cringingness.
As far as the narration, even though they done good with the different characters. The male narrator was too loud and sounded like he were too close to the microphone. And why does the main character have both a male and female voice? It was distracting.

Historia
Jiran is just a child when he receives shattered, imperfect memories of a past life. Nestled inside these emotionless visions is a magic very different to the density and mana he knows, the magic of science. The empire stands alone against the relentless beasts of Madra. Their only means of survival is harnessing the density that saturates her surface, a magic they cannot possibly understand. Will Jiran realize he holds the key to unlocking humanity's infinite potential before they are all wiped out?

boring, no substance
Revisado: 01-08-25
Most of the story was nothing but an inner monologue of trying to figure out how the different powers worked. So boring. It was not until the last hour that there was a real story. I will not be continuing the series. I do not recommend this book unless you need help sleeping.
The narrator did a good job with what he had to work with.

another great installment.
Revisado: 12-19-24
I am really enjoying the journey so far and cannot wait for the next installment. I took off one star because I never cared for talking animals. It seems they are becoming more prominent to the story.
Both Narrators Matt Hicks and Allie Piper did a great job narrating and were a perfect pair.

great story in spite of the volume issue
Revisado: 12-15-24
I really enjoyed this story. It seems to finish the story arc which was started in the first book. For a change, it is an isekai story without teenage characters. Cannot wait to see what is next for the MC. The narrators did a great job but the volume did not match. I really wanted to turn down the volume for the female narrator. The difference was night and day. If you are into isekai and overpowered characters, then I highly recommend this book, and series so far.

turned out to be pretty good in spite of the MC
Revisado: 12-09-24
Let me get it out of my system, but the MC is an idiot. So many times he had the ability to do something to protect himself and he fails. Other than that, the story is pretty good. I am normally not into urban fantasy so this book was a pleasant surprise. And then there is that super cat. The narrator did a great job by bring the different characters to life. He made you forget that a male was reading the female characters. I highly recommend this story.

slice of life isekai
Revisado: 12-08-24
Thought it was a good story, it was not what I expected. It did not follow the normal formula for isekai stories. It really did not have much in the way of alchemy but it had more about rune magic. At times, especially the last hour or so, it was boring. What I liked about it was the mc was not too overpowered at the start, did not have it easy, and not stuck on vengeance. It is the first book of a series so the world building was expected. It seems the second book will be about academy life so I will be looking forward it.

It could have been my type of story but...
Revisado: 12-07-24
The story was written from a historical perspective of events from centuries past. The style of the book was very distracting. Some of the voice sound effects made it hard to understand what was being said. The AI at the start of each chapter was too long, and the historian (mostly in book one) spent too much time giving overviews of the story. The way it jumped around at times, it was hard to follow. The story by itself would have been great without those extra features. I am not sure if I will be continuing the series.

The story lost its way
Revisado: 11-23-24
As with the first book of the series, the dialog was terrible and felt so unnatural. It was like the author pulled out a thesaurus and changed every other word. This really bugged me in the first book but I decided to give it another chance. In addition, I am still waiting for the mc to start looking into his past. Why start out the story in the first book with him coming from another planet/universe and never mentioned again, at least through the second book? Finally, the last few chapters became a confusing mess with a cliffhanger and was hard to get into. The only real positive was the narrators. They done good. I will not be continuing the series.

It was painful to listen to until it got good
Revisado: 11-04-24
The first part of the book was extremely slow and painful to listen to. I never liked stories when the main character has a major flaw that affects the flow of the story. I had to push myself to continue listening, since I did pay for it and it was not returnable. I think I would have if I could after the first 30 minutes. In the end, I was glad I kept and finished it. It turned into a very good story once the mc enters the academy. I am a fan of "wow" moments in stories, and this one has them. I am a fan of overpowered characters and this book has one, although the mc is not that overpowered but advances faster than the others. .
The narration was great. The voice actor did a great job with the different voices and it was easy to distinguish between the characters. At first the southern accent really got on my nerves for some of the characters but it eventually grew on me. Now the story would not be the same without it since it gave the story character.
I highly recommend the book and will be getting the next book in the series.

could have been a great story
Revisado: 10-17-24
The book started out great, the stereotypical litrpg isekai where a human was brought into another world and gains powers. He travels with other non-human individuals who were also brought to the world. He is constantly wondering why he was brought to the world. In the meantime, the group is traveling around helping others and ended up helping out a town. It worked for me, until it became a sex fantasy where every time he needed more power, he had sex. Sorry but no more. After finishing the third book, the series was over for me. No more because it sounds like it was going to get worse in the fourth. It is not explicit but imo, it was totally unnecessary. I do not recommend the series.
The narrator done a great job with the voices.
