Grand and interesting until....
Revisado: 03-09-20
Honestly this is a good audio with one glaring exception. It is a cliff hanger and literally the worst time. It stops right before you thing a big arch is going to happen. We find out that down the big is on the way and happened and then bang you are done. Right there. Nothing is resolved and I am not even sure that a solid formation and resolution to a key problem the plot uses is solved. Worse you can’t find a paper or e copy of the book anywhere. And while it claims it is part of a series it apparently was either dropped. forgotten, or never passed the publishers test to get to print. Because this came out in 2015 and five years later nothing. And no clear sign of anything coming either. Otherwise is has a solid narrator and an indicative take on a plot that just gets left unfinished yet is sold as done.

Historia
When Lynn learns she is to be relocated to the temple at Landfall, the arduous journey seems more like a gift - her last chance to see something of the outside world. She does not anticipate the dangers and temptations she will encounter along the way, nor does she expect Lieutenant Kim Ramon, an officer in the squadron of Rangers assigned to protect her. Despite all prohibitions forbidding it, attraction grows between the two women.

Great with exceptions
Revisado: 03-09-20
Honestly it would get higher stars except for the audio quality. The narrator is good. The story is interesting but whoever recorded it apparently fell asleep at the wheel a few times. If any attempt to fix it was made they failed. The good news it only happens in a handful of spots and lasts a few seconds each time before smoothing our again. The bad news is clearly no one listened to the recording in its full before selling it or after trying to fix it as this would not pas a proof hearing with those spots if they listened full through. And considering the prior review being up for years and still nothing has been done either no one cares or bothers reading reviews except customers. So the less stars it’s literally all on the recorder and not the narrator. I likely will keep it because it is just a few spots and this is a rare lesbian fantasy but honestly I might trade it because I can and because I try to only keep the highest quality pieces. It is just sad that such a little thing like checking your work as a recorder all the way through could have saved them so much.

This is not a fairy tail romance
Revisado: 03-07-20
This is not your everyday Romance. This is no fairy tale where you know the ending as soon as you start. Even though it is a Romance half the time I was convinced it would not work out. Not because of some made up plot twist or a main that even their mother would not love. Nope not that. It was because of the real impact of experiences on the two mains lives. It felt raw, believable and real. It was not making molehills into mountains but having to struggle with real issues both psychological, emotional and physical. Of how body image and self esteem can affect you. About even people who act like they don’t give a shit about anything and are too tough can have wounds, weakness, and flaws. And how some of those things shape you. About how you look affects perception even when it should not. And about how wrong it can be. About how hard it is to grind against those things every day. About how hard it is to struggle to be liked. About how betrayal can hurt. And how you can struggle to change and heal and work to get past those things. About the fight to get stronger and how having a good mentor can help that. This is not a fairytale. But is is about how two every day people who you could pick out on the street struggled together and fell in love. And it is all in their voice in their words, in how they think, react and grow. And how they find that being together makes them both stronger and better.

Good story lackluster narrator
Revisado: 02-27-20
I don’t write many of these. But the reviews of the narrator are warranted. The narration is fairly unskilled and lacked experience on this type of work. Other works might go well but not a romance. Gave off more of the feel of an unskilled speaker who was telling a story they heard or read of someone else then true narration. It is tolerable because the story is so good and the narration is lucky to fall into a type that with the right mindset can be acceptable but I had to consider if I wanted to keep this one. I decided to in spite of the narration. The story saved the narrator though it did barely.

Great story ruined
Revisado: 03-07-19
I bought this a while ago and just got around to listening to it. I have read the book version and rather enjoyed it. So it seemed logical that I would like the narrated one. And the audios from Amazon that I had listened to were all good..... until this one. I could only last an hour in before my will was broken and it was either stop the audio or risk throwing my device. The narrator tone is basically a dull accented mondrone that is hard to stomach. Worse she uses that tone for like 90% of what I heard. The main characters are tolerantly different and have some inflection to them.... except sometimes she falls into a monodrone hybrid part way through from a charrie voice. Main secondary charries tend to be rather indistinguishable. And secondary charries of lower rank are damn near identical even if they are repeaters. Made the romance as exciting as listing to a rather dull monodrone part of a manual. Am going to avoid the narrator and advise you to do the same. Do however buy the book. It is very much worth reading.

Historia
Pop star Leontyne Blake might sing about love, but she stopped believing in it a long time ago. What women want is her image, not the real her. When her father has a stroke, she flees the spotlight and returns to her tiny Missouri hometown. In her childhood home, she meets small-town nurse Holly Drummond, who isn't impressed by Leo's fame at all. That isn't the only thing that makes Holly different from other women. She's also asexual. For her, dating is a minefield of expectations that she has decided to avoid.

Does not disappoint
Revisado: 11-07-18
Honestly the reason I got this book was because it handle an asexual character and I am wondering if I am asexual. This book gave me a good view and a lot of things made sense. It may be a romance but Jae stayed true to the charries. There was no sudden “cure” or reversal in feelings and it showed a great view of the complexities of a relationship. But it also made it clear that both parties cared for each other and were deeply in love. Perfect choice on if you don’t want to read a heavily sexed book as it is only one chapter to avoid. Also great on if you are trying to figure out or have an interest in a unique and well formed set of main characters who are not stereotypical of if you align with something beyond the more ‘traditional’ and limited scale of sexuality of LGB to include its fuller dimensions. Well thought out explanations as well for people more new to concepts. A great read.
