Historia
Almost every religion, spiritual practice, philosophy and person grapples with fear. The most repeated phrase in the Bible is “Be not afraid.” The ancient Greeks spoke of phobos, panic and terror. It is natural to feel fear, the Stoics believed, but it cannot rule you. Courage, then, is the ability to rise above fear, to do what’s right, to do what’s needed, to do what is true. And so it rests at the heart of the works of Marcus Aurelius, Aristotle, and CS Lewis, alongside temperance, justice, and wisdom.

Weak! love Ryan's work but not this
Revisado: 12-25-22
Actor james caan dressed in tights, so he made it big because he swallowed his pride... what? Examples of celebrities taking risks don't inspire me. His other work focuses on stoics themselves and lets us connect the dots to our modern-day, and similar, struggles. Cherry-picking celebrity success examples is not an inspiration or way to explain stoicism today.
I like Ryan's Daily Stoic podcast; his other works are ok. But this misses. I don't feel a call to courage at all in this one.

Appendix is Awesome
Revisado: 08-25-22
Super useful appendix for the first time in history books. The author can sometimes sound repetitive and braggadocious but hey that's part of his point: believe in yourself keep at it and keep at it some more. there is some unintentional comedy when he is settling the score with some past critics;at first it seems trifling but in today's age it was necessary. his revenge was probably an example of the best way to get back at the online anonymous hatred that attacks to so many innocent people nowadays not just the creative ones. like with so many of the great self-help books these days it is hard to remember the good points especially when you listen to this on audible you can't really take notes or even select clips when you're driving that is the apps fault not the authors but in true ultimate productivity fashion, the Guru of Productivity Already thought of this and made the most useful appendix to recap each chapters important points and guides you to setup an Action Plan for every point. in spite of what he may say I think the author knows this too but he is a teacher for all of us not just kids but for us middle-age adults. thank you!

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Fascinating Ethiopian historical fiction
Revisado: 05-15-22
Learned about this on Kwamu's TikTok! The story is an exciting action adventure but even more than that it pulls you in to learn about Ethiopian history. I love learning about what seemed like a far away culture but hits a lot closer to home in Christian history. ex: J.R.R. Tolkien Lord of the rings such as the riders of Rohan were directly taken from Ethiopian history. I find it fun to cross check some of the stories and it blows my mind how this is real such as the underground churches. historical fiction is new to me and this makes me want to look for more of the Genre but more than anything this fantastic author! the narrator is awesome too I love the cadence and pronunciations that make me want to learn more about this history and maybe visit there one day.

Historia
In The End Is Always Near, Dan Carlin looks at questions and historical events that force us to consider what sounds like fantasy; that we might suffer the same fate that all previous eras did. Will our world ever become a ruin for future archaeologists to dig up and explore? The questions themselves are both philosophical and like something out of The Twilight Zone.

The Incomparable Dan Carlin Can Do No Wrong
Revisado: 02-25-20
He is absolutely wonderful. He is the first one to really get me into podcasts with Hardcore History. You can hear the joy in his voice; sure he is a little more reserved here than in the podcast, but equally captivating. I wish he would do this for his podcasts series e.g. Wrath of the Khans, Punic Nightmares; Id love to have these on Audible instead of downloading separately.

Gary Is The Only Steinbeck Narrator I'll Listen to
Revisado: 08-06-18
Gary Sinise captures the blue collar, rugged, yet hopeful tone of these characters like no one else can. I wish he would do all of Steinbeck's books tbh. I can't stand the other narrators - they sound pretentious, upper class, highfalutin, and I can't stand it. That's like the opposite of Steinbeck, a I'll-drink-a-beer-with-you-and-talk-sh*t kind of guy. who hangs out at a brewery, not a restaurant, a cafe, not a tea house. I seriously would keep my Audible membership if Gary Sinise would read all the other Steinbeck favorites. Pretty please...

glorified podcast of his dating life
Revisado: 08-06-18
and not a clever one; first three chapters have a few quips on dating 20-something groupies and being rich; a lot on ego, very little on substance; chapter 5 is decent then it drops off again and couldn't finish the rest; returned for being mediocre

really like the narrator and the topic is good

interesting topic felt more like a good workshop fantastic for listening to while commuting which I of course did. It gave me great formula for first for identifying habits and then replacing them with good habits really helpful
I thought the narrator was amazing and I really hope to hear him read other books. Thank you to the author and narrator for a great book
