trying not to do too much spoiling, but the person chosen to reveal the details of the plan was about the last person who could ever have gotten away with it. there is no way to suspend disbelief enough to make that choice plausible.

this just didn't work for me. I could have been in the wrong mood for humor, but nothing really struck me as funny. the Mario portion felt like something a group of college freshmen would come up with after a frat party.

knowing that this is a large series, you have to accept that some books set the stage for future adventures. this one does not have a lot of action, but there will hopefully be a payoff in the next book or two.

very primitive introduction to personal economics

this was 10 years old when I noticed it and downloaded as part of the free audible collection. obviously, their perspectives were contemporary, and economic conditions have changed drastically since this was recorded. the basics are still true - don't spend more than you earn, put money into long-term savings for retirement, and don't keep Financial secrets from your significant other.

a bit slow, lots of table setting

this one didn't have as much action as some installments in this series. had more of the ethical implications of treating new species and digital entities with respect or with fear and violence. looking forward to more action in the next one.

tough early slog, entertaining second half

like some other listeners, I really struggled in the early part of this book it could have used a little less of the emphasis on how boring the commission was, as the boringness translated to the storyline.

once the plot started moving, it was much, much more interesting and entertaining. loved hearing the history of characters detailed, and enjoyed having some of my suspicions confirmed and others disproven.

I have listened to all of the audiobooks as well as watched both seasons of the television version. I have enjoyed both, and relistening ads for depth to the story. I wil continue listening through the current volume.

I like the main character, and most of the plot in this series, but a couple of tremendously unbelievable things weekend the overall effect. trying not to provide any spoilers, but the man he meets in the truck is just absolutely unrealistic.

Typical of Donaldson's works, neither victory nor defeat is ever pure. The stage is set for the finale. I expect no character will come out unscathed.
