Historia
In the weeks after Japan finally surrendered to the Allies to end World War II, the world turned to the question of how to move on from years of carnage and destruction. For Harry Truman, Douglas MacArthur, Chiang Kai-shek, and their fellow victors, the question of justice seemed clear: Japan’s militaristic leaders needed to be tried and punished for the surprise attack at Pearl Harbor; shocking atrocities against civilians in China, the Philippines, and elsewhere; and rampant abuses of prisoners of war in notorious incidents such as the Bataan death march.

Unnecessarily long and repetitive
Revisado: 07-24-24
This book, like the trial itself, it was three times as long as it should've been and often went over and over the same material. Sometimes I thought I was listening to an earlier chapter word for word again. This is a shame as it is a fascinating period of history I'm interested in. Where was the editor? Where was his or her sharp pencil to take away of text? At 31 hours, this book is way too long! I kept listening only because I like Mr. Vance very much and the period of history is indeed fascinating.

Wonderfully crafted remembrance written by a very insightful author. Wonderful narration. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I wish you'd written other books, this is so well written.
The subject matter is an old one for myself, and I would not have started this book, except for the curiosity of the title. The authors judgment that the Japanese are very brave, soldiers, invites, thoughtful consideration.

With compassion and candor, leading neurosurgeon Henry Marsh reveals the fierce joy of operating, the profoundly moving triumphs, the harrowing disasters, the haunting regrets, and the moments of black humor that characterize a brain surgeon's life. If you believe that brain surgery is a precise and exquisite craft, practiced by calm and detached surgeons, this gripping, brutally honest account will make you think again.

Poor performance makes a mediocre, buck worse.
Revisado: 12-23-22
For the first time ever, I increased the speed. The narrator clearly doesn’t speak German so struggles with any German words. He pauses for breath, midsentence, and makes it somewhat pretentious text more over bearing.

Disappointing, plot, excellent narration
Revisado: 11-26-22
After a strong start, plot disintegrated into a series of implausible, and frankly, juvenile twists. Lost my attention. Simon Vance narration was excellent, as always. Regret having spent the credit.

Excellent performance by the narrator. Entertaining to hear expanded portraits of selected Vanderbilts, information already in public domain. Would’ve liked to hear more about Anderson’s mother,

Historia
Black Tulip locates the ambiguous truth about Erich Hartmann and so much of the German Wehrmacht in general: that many of these men were neither full-blown Nazis nor impeccable knights. They were complex, contradictory, and elusive. This book portrays a complex human rather than the heroic caricature we're used to, and it argues that the tidy, polished hero stories we've inherited about men like Hartmann say as much about those who've crafted them as they do about the heroes themselves.

Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner first crossed paths as actors on the set of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Little did they know that their next roles, in a new science-fiction television series, would shape their lives in ways no one could have anticipated. In 79 television episodes of Star Trek and six feature films, they grew to know each other more than most friends could ever imagine. Over the course of half a century, Shatner and Nimoy saw each other through personal and professional highs and lows.

Revisado: 01-24-21
I love William Shatner‘s narration and speaking style. Very unique and entertaining and easy to listen to. However, roughly a quarter of this book is hard to understand because he either had a bad cold or it was hung over and the audio quality has suffered.

Psychobabble with a false pretense
Revisado: 01-17-21
To grab attention, the author attacks AA starting with the title of his book. However, the pretense is completely false. AA is not a treatment program, never has been. It is a fellowship of like-minded individuals. The authors program offers nothing more innovative than the classic “white knuckling “so familiar to people trying to recover from substance abuse… Waste of time
