unnerving but outstanding

Very good story. characters were wonderfully deep. Snow was unnerving as hell but certainly not one-dimentional.
Only thing that would make the audiobook better would have been if the songs were sung instead of spoken.

narrators were great, but the way of narration could have been done better.

Instead of Shane reading Liam's lines and Vanessa reading January's. They read alternating chapters depending on pov. That means that you get 2 voices for Liam (Shane's version and Vanesssa's) and 2 for January (Shane's version and Vanesssa's).

And while Shane's voice is perfect for the Liam character and Vanesssa's voice wonderful for January. Their respective voices for the "other" character are kinda cringy in comparison.

Maybe this is not a problem for other people but it really pulled me out of the story a couple of times. So I'm going to try and stay clear of this kind of narration.

The book is just as the cover promised for the most part. I had no problem keeping engaged, it was an easy read. If a little bit TOO sweet at times. The Baddy's were real bad, but the Goody's were kinda too good to be true.

That said, it wasn't an easy listen. I did not care much for the narrator of this book. The overall tone was kinda flat and the "female" bits were downright annoying. He made all the females sound like simpering/winpering little missus.

Even though I listened it in one sitting, this one will not go on repeat.

EDIT: reading through the reviews i really can't understand so many people liking the narration. It was so damn annoying that I was contemplating buying the book version just to know how it would end without having to continue listening... Glad I didn't though, the book wasn't nearly good enough to buy it twice.

the characters are either so damn flat or annoying (the main) tyat I'm not the least inspired to finish the book. which is a shame, since the storyline could be interesting.

good book, but not without flaws

I liked the book a lot, and it was paced just right, making you want to continue reading.

but the "hero" wasn't really my cup of tea. A bit to high and mighty and free with his hands for my taste. I hate the "I'll have you begging for my touch" line very much, so that wasn't in his favor.

the heroine was nice and independent one minute and gagging for it the other, it gave me whiplash. She wasn't wholely unlikable though. She was brave and really tried to hold her own most of the time.

The story kept me interested enough that it was hard to put down and I liked the narration a lot.

Real sorry to let this one go, but I can take no more. Stranded in chapter 16

I listened this one (audiobook). The narrator was not to blame. In fact, she's the reason I got this far. The beginning was rather nice, I was enjoying the female lead. A sassy lady with spunk and a glass half-full attitude. Que the male lead... even though he was a real *not nice* (insert male bodypart) at the start, I warmed up to him as he warmed up to Finny. I was iffy on the whole keeping a secret from Finny part, but he could have salvaged that.

What was un-salvageable was the whole; "I'm an aristocrat, I'll fuck whoever I want, whenever I want even though I'm married and you'll just have to live with that if I'm inclined to do so" and "if you withhold sex, you're at fault if I get it somewhere else" and with the 'mother' adding insult to injury "it's up to you to keep your husband interested, as long as you give him anything he wants he won't be inclined to go looking outside of his marriage"

Finny turned into a brainless twit around him, a freakin' ninny agreeing to anything and everything and begging for it all. And that was a damn shame.

I hadn't read any reviews on Goodreads before buying (just the ones on Audible and they were raving) but after a few disappointed signs from Frey, I went looking. One of them said that at some point he even substitutes her birth-control meds for placebo's because "HE" will decide if and when baby's will be bourne (!!!). At that is AFTER he already cut her off from her own world without her knowing at the time, or notifying her after that.

I tried to listen on after that, but there were some more male chauvinistic remarks and the mothers "advice". And I was afraid I might throw my phone in anger if I came across the whole birth-control issue and the book isn't worth that. So this is it for me.

I like some aspects of the Alpha male type but Frey took it too far and I'm allergic to Ninny heroines.
