Where bodies go, hearts follow, and darkness is radically penetrated by light.
Revisado: 01-18-25
This is a well-written, spicy, girl-on-girl romance with elements of past trauma, life-altering mistakes, psychological manipulation, torture, action/adventure, redemption, and radical forgiveness! This is a 2 book series and can be read as a stand-alone but reading the earlier novels by this author will give you an appreciation for all of the characters and their back stories. Simply put the biggest baddest wolf in the pack is the least likely character that a reader would imagine finding love. And yet… this IS a passion-filled romance novel. What could tame a wolf- perhaps another? In this story, the past haunts the present lives of these two women, and no one can move forward until the ghosts are put in their place. Amid chaos, pain, and trauma, these two hearts have a chance to resuscitate each other and their community. The story and characters are intricately woven together, solving the many mysteries and secrets of this author's tapestry. The narration is excellent! Highly recommended.

A whole lot of sci-fi BANG for your Audible BUCK!
Revisado: 01-17-25
This is a tremendous concept for a space opera with some of the most incredible narration I have ever heard! Yes, it’s has its a bit piggy patriarchal at times but despite that, the main character is more of a real man, a real human being, a real father and a real husband than most, which is saying something considering he’s an android. Seeing things through his eyes over time, gives us a perspective on life that few people fully realize. Yes, there are cool scientific tools and discoveries, yes, there are great battles and clever strategies, yes, there is bravery and victory, but most of all, there is what makes all of that matter- relationships and purpose. No one is a one-dimensional character here- they’re well-wriiten with many layers and surprises. There’s also plenty of humor, chosen and created friends and family, a wide variety of aliens and challenges and a story that will get you hooked from beginning to end! I highly recommend this series!

This is one whacky ride with a very human android!
Revisado: 01-10-25
The initial concept of this series is pure gold! It has endless possibilities and is not to be missed. Our wise cracking hero is a lot of fun. It is, however, disappointing that the story often falls back on banal gender politics and perverse patriarchal tropes. Still, the archetype wife and mother is one of the best parts of the book and the way our hero embraces diversity is as good as it gets in space operas! There is also a very well-written villain that is based upon a sound premise, which is explained later in the second book, who is not only a villain that’s going to be hard to defeat, he is truly worthy of our disdain! At this point in the series, the white hats and black hats are pretty darn clear. If you are looking for a wild adventure, with the very survival of our species is at stake, featuring witty banter and lots of aliens, you will love this series!

This book has it all- adventure, mystery, psychological thriller and space opera!
Revisado: 12-27-24
Worldbuilding, in terms of future earth, is excellent, especially the navigation modalities for anything that moves. There is duo narration in this story, which can sometimes be distracting, but in this case, it is a real bonus! Both of the narrators did a great job. The storyline is very interesting and so plausible that you can jump right in and focus on the characters, the science, the deeper implications of discoveries made, etc. The comradery among the crews and how they tackled problems was outright inspiring! Humor and interpersonal relationships were used to cut the tension in this high-stakes drama. No spoilers here but there’s one hell of a first contact, and if you want to know more, you’ll have to read it! Highly recommend!

Either you’ll love it or it’s an acquired taste!
Revisado: 12-25-24
If you only want to get your news from FOX, hate France, and are reluctant to give credit to powerful, intelligent, and courageous women, this is your book! If you like to see misogynistic Neanderthals get what’s coming them, this is ALSO your book. There is a true heroine in this book, and she is an undervalued, under-utilized underdog. Her contributions may not be fully accredited to her but she does manage to maneuver in this supposedly “man’s world” in space. That’s a bit of an oxymoron. Too bad the authors are still stuck in one very small-minded perspective, even when the book explores far beyond this small planet in this one galaxy. One ongoing theme that I DO love in these books is the consistently indomitable spirit of humankind, a trait that is likely to be the reason we survive IF we utilize ALL of our human resources. Only leading white men from the United States or Great Britain are fully supported, mentored, and encouraged in these stories and these characters are given God-like skills. Women or females of any species, people of color, and people from different nations are left out, ignored or their accomplishments are minimized in some way. These characters deserve better from the authors who choose to support and teach negative stereotypes. Politically speaking, the authors flagrantly paddle readers who are moderates or liberals as if they are the principal of a 1950s school. Having noted these things, the story is still compelling. No spoilers but the social commentary on the combination of war and entertainment in this last installment is insightful and way ahead of its time. The authors took a whimsical approach to this last book in the series. The narrator did a good job of tackling a difficult story to read. As to how it all turns out, you’ll have to read or listen to it to find out if we- the human race- will live to see another day in a galaxy filled with an enemy who seems to have unlimited resources!

Book 3 - the best in the series so far!
Revisado: 12-19-24
If you like science and SWAGS regarding advanced cultures, space travel and technology, you will enjoy this series. Be aware that these books still feature white males as God-like creatures, with everyone else falling into some other category that is consistently below them. There ARE super-smart females in these stories but they are clearly noted as an anomaly or they are helped by some alien, so their intelligence is dependent on and enhanced by that in many ways. And there are always comments about their looks and they are rated for their suitability for amorous activities. This wouldn't be an issue in the right situation, but it sticks out in these stories because these things are never mentioned regarding white male characters in a professional evaluation of their skills and contributions. It’s sad that these authors have a need to reinforce the way that some men treat women in a reductive manner in a work environment. I will be vague to avoud any spoilers, but in this story, the authors have the president try to get a female character to join the white house staff, in part, due to how good-looking she is, so the president, who is likely married, is flirting with a young woman and linking her looks to a job offer, in front of a group of all-male collegues. Thst’s just embarrassing- especially for the authors. Most current science fiction seems to support the idea that a future world where ALL human resources are supported and valued will be necessary to ensure the survival of our species. I will say this book is better in all regards, than the previous two in this series! The action/adventure and problem-solving is amped up and that makes this book very engaging. There is also a great deal of intuition and emotional intelligence demonstrated by the male leadership in this story, making these characters have more depth and dimension. The narration is also more varied and was excellent!

Good story, but dated
Revisado: 12-15-24
If you can overlook the misogyny, rabid white male patriarchy, and a little outdated technology, this is a very interesting and engaging story! Were it just the story that prevailed throughout the book, I would say five stars. If you like to geek out on science like I do, you will really appreciate this book. The narration is good, though there is not as much variation in the voices as I’ve come to expect with Audible. In terms of diversity and what I think of as the truth, it’s a different experience as a reader. There are some “concessions” made in that regard with a young girl character and her alien partner. Specifically, she is very smart and she is mission-critical. Yet, she is also referred to as “jail bait” and sexualized by military men in the story at the age of 12, more than once. There are some “concessions” given to a Black female character who is a genius with multiple doctorates in the sciences, but like the young girl, she is also sexualized and rated by the “men” (a term I use loosely since REAL men don’t have to be reductive) and found wanting due to her race and her age, as if a white man would not be interested in a woman of color! Really? The author’s DEFINING CHARACTERISTICS for all the main male characters are related to their PROFESSIONAL abilities. So it is as if there are TWO authors and TWO perspectives. It is as if what concessions the author makes to women and diversity on the one hand, are soon taken away with the other hand. These books create almost God-like males as the leads and they receive numerous accolades and acknowledgments of their prowess, accomplishments, and contributions. They are extraordinary, unflawed, and unscathed. That rarely happens with the female characters who were and are just as critical to the success of the various missions. And, as of yet, no male character has been described on the basis of their sexualized physical attributes, such as having a less than standard sized “package”, as was one of the female characters, who was introduced as “light on top”, an indication that her breasts were not large enough. I give these books four stars for the story, AND in the hope that a more realistic and equitable approach will prevail in “future” science fiction by these authors. Perhaps THEY will evolve as people and update these books. It concerns me that they have substituted words for curse words. I am guessing that was done to make the books more accessible to young readers, which certainly promotes negative, racially segregated, limited, and sexualized stereotypes to the next generation. I hope that the writers will gain a perspective that is consistent with fully utilizing and supporting ALL of our HUMAN resources!

What does a hot FBI agent with blown boundaries, a user boss, and an idiot handler, have in common with a sexy good-hearted entrepreneur with mob connections who might be ready to open her heart up for the first time?! Well, pretty much everything! They could certainly talk shop without missing a beat! Forewarning- the author shows her cruel streak with this terrific cliffhanger! This one is quite refreshing with the play of power dynamics, in and out of the bedroom, with neither of these women being a shrinking violet. It more like a panther/cheetah meets a liger, each possessing their own skills, passions and perspectives. There’s also a murder mystery to be solved and I expect the next book will delve more deeply into that storyline. Definitely a fun listen with excellent duo narration!
