Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Us vs them. Bi-polar father and a psycho brother. Faith vs reason. How she chose herself, chose education and found the family she thought she had lost. Wow! Truth is stranger than fiction.

Brilliant. Characters and dialogue amazing. Kept me guessing with every chapter, but in true Tana style, everyone has their dark sides. Paul is fabulous as narrator!

In The Best Cook in the World, Rick Bragg finally preserves his heritage by telling the stories that framed his mother's cooking and education, from childhood into old age. Delicious Tales
Revisado: 05-08-18
My mouth watered with every recipe. I laughed and cried, but mostly laughed, with every story.
Rick has captured, once again, the tender family stories of his childhood and gives “his people” their due as these great cooks on all sides of the family tree, taught the generations the simple, hearty, fresh from the garden, made from scratch, recipes that are the gold standard of southern cooking.
I didn’t want this book to end. Listening to
Rick, with his Alabama drawl, takes the listener into a slower pace of life, like floating down a lazy river in summer.
It was so wonderful to be sitting at the table with all Rick’s best cooks in the world. Now I have to get the book for the recipes.

Fun, fast, exciting, fantasy adventure. Great characters. Strong moral themes of home, friendship, family. Felt like a little bit "Magical Beasts" meets "The Wizard Of Oz".

Tattoos On The Heart
Revisado: 12-10-17
Such a powerful book about G-Dog and his homies. The tenderness of Father Greg and His compassion for all the gang members and their pain, makes Father Greg the most Christ-like example of unconditional love.
I laughed and cried for the stories of pain, violence and humor in the deconstruction of gang members to finding new life outside the gang, finding their worth and being.

G-Dog and His Homies
Revisado: 12-06-17
What an inspiring, funny, tearful, heart wrenching, collection of stories of the Bario of Los Angeles.
Father Greg lives his faith and sees the pain and hardship of his homies with love and compassion, boundaries and honesty. I never knew about his work/ministry and Home Boy Industries. Now I want to go have lunch there.
How easy it is to point at the speck in a homies' eye and not see the log in my own.

Historia
In 1906 I was barely over 14 years old, and it was my wedding day. My older sister, Helen, came to my room, took me by the hand, and sat me down on the bed. She said, "You've always been a good girl, Maude, and done what I told you. Now you're going to be a married woman, and he will be the head of the house. When you go home tonight after your party, no matter what he wants to do to you, you have to let him do it. Do you understand?"

A marvelous book of a remarkable woman who lived a life of hardship in rural 1900's America. Her faith gave her hope and her family brought her both joy and sorrow. You won't be able to put this down.

Historia
When siblings Dan and Hayley Daley inherit their late grandmother's derelict Victorian farmhouse, it seems like a dream come true. All they have to do is fix the place up and sell it for a tidy profit! Except - as anyone who has renovated an old house knows - things are never that easy. The walls are rapidly crumbling around them, the architect is a certified lunatic, the budget is spiraling...and then there's the disturbingly intelligent cow to worry about.

What did you like best about Bricking It? What did you like least?
I liked best the two narrators, and the honesty Nick gives his main characters. Some of the situations were hilarious, but some way too silly.
If you’ve listened to books by Nick Spalding before, how does this one compare?
I loved "Fat Chance", and felt more connection with those characters. I laughed so hard with the crazy diets they went on. Who can't relate?!
What about Napoleon Ryan and Heather Wilds ’s performance did you like?
Wonderful.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Maybe.

Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead. There are dangers and adventures in the graveyard for a boy. But if Bod leaves the graveyard, then he will come under attack from the man Jack - who has already killed Bod's family…

Graveyard Gold
Revisado: 06-27-16
If you could sum up The Graveyard Book: Full-Cast Production in three words, what would they be?
Full-Cast FANTASTIC!
What other book might you compare The Graveyard Book: Full-Cast Production to and why?
Harry Potter! Transported to another world, and totally believable.
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
A full-cast is always a delight.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
OH YES!
Any additional comments?
I think Tim Burton should make this movie. Somebody should!

A heart break of the loss of his wife and the healing power of animals. Not as PG a story as the movie. Much more grit, drama and pain. Was disappointed with the narrator. I felt he just read the book instead of told the story. I was wishing Matt Damon read it. But it is a British story. So get Jim Dale!
