Historia
This book tells a remarkable true story of bureaucratic assassination during the Trump presidency, revealing in vivid detail how career federal employees thwarted President Trumps efforts to drain the swamp. Mark Moyar, a senior political appointee at the US Agency for International Development, discovered evidence of corruption involving five career bureaucrats and reported it to agency officials in 2018.

It offered interesting insights into the internal nature of the federal bureacracy. This is why DOGE is finding so much.
Revisado: 04-07-25
I liked the insights it offers into the kinds of obstacles any reformers of our government are up against. It was filled with observations and a few stories of the roles played by corrupt, incompetent, self absorbed, cowardly, power hungry and ideological behavior that makes our government so destructive and difficult to reform. I got tired of the endless blow by blow details of the author's attempts to get hired by the Trump administration and of his time in the USAID agency.

Insights into another culture
Revisado: 06-18-24
This was a fascinating story about Islamic, and Islamist culture. Ayaan sensitively describes what it means for a girl to grow up in traditional Muslim families, how different the value system is from the enlightenment values of western societies, and how difficult adaptation can be for people moving between them. She is also very clear about the threat of violence from the Islamist culture and the superiority of enlightenment values for those who want humans to live healthy lives in the real world. She is a rare thinker with both brilliance and empathy. You don't want to miss this book.

Historia
In The War on the West, Douglas Murray shows how many well-meaning people have been fooled by hypocritical and inconsistent anti-West rhetoric. After all, if we must discard the ideas of Kant, Hume, and Mill for their opinions on race, shouldn’t we discard Marx, whose work is peppered with racial slurs and anti-Semitism? Embers of racism remain to be stamped out in America, but what about the raging racist inferno in the Middle East and Asia?

This is written in clear, logical and sometimes humorous language that makes listening easy. As usual, Douglas Murray's observations and ideas are eye opening and important for everyone in the Anglophile world to consider. I strongly recommend it to all people who wish to continue to enjoy any freedom.

Historia
Benjamin Franklin's autobiography is one of the greatest autobiographies of all time, but it was incomplete. Franklin ended his life's story in 1757, when he was 51. He lived another 33 eventful years, serving as America's advocate in London, Pennsylvania's representative in the Continental Congress, and America's wartime ambassador to France. Now, at last, we get the rest of the story, in Franklin's own words.

Historia
Was America founded on the auction block in Jamestown in 1619 or aboard the Mayflower in 1620? The controversy erupted in August 2019 when the New York Times announced its 1619 Project. The Times set to transform history by asserting that all the laws, material gains, and cultural achievements of Americans are rooted in the exploitation of African Americans. Historians have pushed back, saying that the 1619 Project conjures a false narrative out of racial grievance.

In the first-ever biography of Thomas Sowell, one of America's most influential conservative social theorists, Jason L. Riley gives this iconic thinker his due and responds to the detractors. Maverick showcases Sowell's most significant writings and traces the life events that shaped his ideas and resulted in a Black orphan from the Jim Crow South becoming one of our foremost public intellectuals.

Revisado: 06-01-22
This clear and meaningful story of the development of Thomas Sowell's thought and of his impact on other thinkers and actors was fascinating. I first read Sowell in the 1980's and found his clear and solidly evidence based explanations of economics and human history to be life changing. Jason Riley has truly done justice to the life and work of one of the great thinkers of the last 80 years.

Historia
Black Americans have long been shackled to the Democrats. Seeing no viable alternative, they have watched liberal politicians take the Black vote for granted without pledging anything in return. In Blackout, Owens argues that this automatic allegiance is both illogical and unearned. She contends that the Democrat Party has a long history of racism and exposes the ideals that hinder the Black community’s ability to rise above poverty, live independent and successful lives, and be an active part of the American dream.

Why all Americans should reconsider the left.
Revisado: 09-27-20
Beautifully read Candace. I felt like you were in my living room talking to me. Before the summer of 2020, I was firmly convinced that institutional racism no longer was a thing in the United States of America or other modern democratic societies. With a lot of time stuck at home listening to diverse speakers, reading, and studying I have come to realize that racism is built into the foundational principles of the complete leftist agenda. Ms. Owens makes a clear and persuasive case for this understanding in connection with the welfare state, affirmative action, the adamant opposition to any form of school choice in poor sections of large Democrat-controlled cities, and the blacks-as-victims narrative pushed by self-proclaimed "liberals." Her arguments are solidly based in facts, evidence and reason. Unlike most leftist black leaders, she speaks to us as to thinking adults with minds as well as emotions. In this book Ms. Owens is primarily speaking to black Americans and she pulls no punches in addressing those cultural issues that can only be fixed by black Americans. That said, most of her message is just as relevant to other racial and ethnic minorities whom the leaders of the left are also using as political tools. Much of her message is also relevant to those of us whites who genuinely want a color-blind society in which all people are free to thrive. It is my hope that most of the white supporters of Democrat Party policies are not actually racist and don't actually mean to destroy human prosperity, but have simply been fooled into thinking those policies are virtuous. They are nothing of the kind. I hope that many of those well-meaning whites will read this book and realize the error of their ways before it is too late. Thank you Candace Owens for your contribution to showing us all the truth.

For those who witnessed the global collapse of socialism, its resurrection in the 21st century comes as a surprise, even a shock. How can socialism work now when it has never worked before? In this pathbreaking audiobook, best-selling author Dinesh D’Souza argues that the socialism advanced today by the likes of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders, Ilhan Omar, and Elizabeth Warren is very different from the socialism of Lenin, Mao, and Castro.

Dinesh, as usual, does a brilliant job of showing the tactics of the Marxist left and the deep state against freedom and democracy. He explains how they use our better natures and love of peace against us. If those of us who love freedom don't start fighting back, we'll have lost all hope. Please read this and share it.

In So You Want to Talk About Race, Ijeoma Oluo offers a contemporary, accessible take on the racial landscape in America, addressing head-on such issues as privilege, police brutality, intersectionality, micro-aggressions, the Black Lives Matter movement, and the "N" word. Perfectly positioned to bridge the gap between people of color and white Americans struggling with race complexities, Oluo answers the questions listeners don't dare ask and explains the concepts that continue to elude everyday Americans.

Well written though one-sided. Expressively read.
Revisado: 07-03-20
I struggled to finish this book because it's definitely written from the "all people with light skin are irredeemable racists" point of view. However, Ms. Oluo explains this perspective and her reasons for it very clearly. She does not allow that any white can fail to be racist or any man can fail to be sexist. But she does offer suggestions for those of us who've been branded evil to understand why many people of color feel that way about us and to have more meaningful conversations on the subject of racial conflict. It is worth reading for those who honestly want to understand this interpretation of reality,, whether or not we agree with it.

Historia
Great Minds and How to Grow Them is a handbook for parents that shows how they can grow the minds of their children and teenagers and guide them to success both at school and in life. The latest neurological and psychological research is proving that most children are capable of reaching high levels of performance that were previously associated only with the gifted and talented. Brains are malleable and IQ is not fixed, yet without parental engagement in their learning, many children don’t reach the levels of performance that are associated with academic success.

Every parent should read or listen to this book.
Revisado: 03-10-20
I wish this book would be read, or listened to, by every parent especially including those whose lower socio-economic status leads them to see success as inaccessible to them or their children. I teach in public schools and constantly find myself struggling to develop learning skills in 11 - 14 year old kids who cannot read or match numbers to meaning and have already become convinced that they are incapable of learning or that there is no point in it. I also work with students whose parents are obviously practicing much of the advice from this book. I'm putting a hard copy of this book on my wish list. How can we get this information in the hands of the parents who most need it, but who will be very unlikely to purchase even an audiobook?
