Story good, narrator not the best.

Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Of course we all know and love the HP series. I started listening bc the first book was included w the Plus catalog. The narrator was the best I’ve ever heard! I really enjoyed his performance.

Historia
The second novel in Isaac Asimov’s classic science-fiction masterpiece, the Foundation series. Led by its founding father, the psychohistorian Hari Seldon, and utilizing science and technology, the Foundation survived the greed and barbarism of its neighboring warrior-planets. Now cleverness and courage may not be enough. For the Empire - the mightiest force in the Galaxy - is even more dangerous in its death throes. Even worse, a mysterious entity called the Mule has appeared with powers beyond anything humanly conceivable. Who - or what - is the Mule?

A little too enthusiastic
Revisado: 10-02-20
I love Asimov, and I have read the foundation trilogy many times. I enjoyed hearing it again, but the narrator was a little too enthusiastic in his performance. At least he wasn’t trying to make funny voices like in so many other audible books.

Historia
Many are familiar with the story of the much-married King Henry VIII of England and the celebrated reign of his daughter, Elizabeth I. But it is often forgotten that the life of the first Tudor queen, Elizabeth of York, Henry's mother and Elizabeth's grandmother, spanned one of England' s most dramatic and perilous periods. Now New York Times best-selling author and acclaimed historian Alison Weir presents the first modern biography of this extraordinary woman.

Narrator detracts from the enjoyment
Revisado: 07-22-20
Similar to other reviews I have read, This is another good book from the author, who has written many. This one suffers from a narrator who believes she must affect a funny accent whenever she is reading from quotations. She does a very poor accent, any accent. She sounds more like the wicked witch of the west. Additionally, there is one section of the book where the author gives us a glimpse into the price level of the medieval period by citing very many prices paid for goods and services Along with the current equivalent price. This becomes rather tedious when listening. I think if you were reading the dead tree book, your eye could skip over many parts of this.

Historia
This insightful look at the life of Henry V and the Battle of Agincourt casts new light on a period in history often held up as legend. A great English hero, Henry V was lionized by Shakespeare and revered by his countrymen for his religious commitment, his sense of justice, and his military victories. Here, noted historian and biographer Ian Mortimer takes a look at the man behind the legend and offers a clear, historically accurate, and realistic representation of a ruler who was all too human.

I purchased this book bc I really enjoyed reading the same author’s book on Henry IV. This book was very different yet still very interesting and engrossing. The author provides extensive details about events and transactions while still telling an interesting narrative illustrating life during these times.

Andrew Roberts' Napoleon is the first one-volume biography to take advantage of the recent publication of Napoleon's thirty-three thousand letters, which radically transform our understanding of his character and motivation. At last we see him as he was: protean multitasker, decisive, surprisingly willing to forgive his enemies and his errant wife Josephine.

Whispered words
Revisado: 03-09-19
I enjoyed this story about Napoleon immensely, however the narrator’s performance was both enjoyable and frustrating. I enjoyed the book because the author gives many details and provides expansive descriptions of events, aptly painting a picture as I listen while jogging, driving or falling asleep. The narrator’s voice was melodious yet irritating. At the end of each breath, the narrator ‘s voice slips to a whisper, such that the last word spoken before he draws his next breath is whispered. What was that last word to finish the sentence? Was Napoleon nervous, excited, bored, treacherous or hungry? You’ll never know. Much of the meaning is lost by the narrator’s poor performance.

Historia
The lives of England's medieval queens were packed with tragedy, betrayal, love, warfare, adultery, and mystery - but their stories are obscured by centuries of myth and prejudice against these powerful women. These Norman queens were actually more autonomous and influential than most later queens, since they actually participated in battles and led troops of their own.

Sometimes it seems like a listing of every charter that was signed. I have enjoyed this author previously but this is not her best work.
The narration could be better; the narrator does not enunciate well so I lose part of each sentence.

Historia
Lancater and York is a riveting account of the Wars of the Roses, from beloved historian Alison Weir. The war between the houses of Lancaster and York was characterised by treachery, deceit, and bloody battles. Alison Weir's lucid and gripping account focuses on the human side of history. At the centre of the book stands Henry VI, the pious king whose mental instability led to political chaos, and his wife Margaret of Anjou, who took up her arms in her husband's cause and battled in a violent man's world.

Narration is awful but still a good story
Revisado: 04-13-18
The narrator is awful, and very irritating in that every time she reads a quote from the book she puts on some great affectation with a strange accent. She ends up sounding like a cackling witch from a Shakespearean play. The author does good Job of telling an interesting story about a time. I’m very interested in. This is the second book from this author that I have purchased, and I am looking forward to listening to many more.

Historia
Fifth in line to the throne at the time of her birth, Victoria was an ordinary woman thrust into an extraordinary role. As a girl, she defied her mother's meddling and an adviser's bullying, forging an iron will of her own. As a teenage queen, she eagerly grasped the crown and relished the freedom it brought her. She was outspoken with her ministers, overstepping conventional boundaries and asserting her opinions.

Revisado: 11-28-17
I really enjoyed both the story of Queen Victoria’s life and the narrator’s job to describe it to us. My only complaint is that it was always very irritating when the narrator tries to simulate male voices when the author is quoting a direct source. I usually avoid fiction books precisely for this reason, as it irritates me to no end. However, I will say that the narrator’s Scottish brogue was hilarious as she quoted Brown, Queen Victoria’s Scottish Gilly.
