The narrator was fantastic!
Revisado: 02-02-24
Sometimes stories that reflect real life can be uncomfortable to read. This story was real. The characters had depth and raw human emotion, leaving me uncomfortable at moments,. It was as if I were witnessing very person, private parts of a life that I had no right to see, But, by doing so I became deeply vested in the outcomes. Life is hard, but filled with rewards. This novel reflects that. This is a well written and equally as well narrated novel.

Historia
In the autumn of 1707, old enemies from the Scottish Highlands to the Borderlands are finding common ground as they join to protest the new Union with England. An invasion is imminent as many plot to bring the exiled young Jacobite king back to Scotland to reclaim his throne, and in Edinburgh, the streets are filled with discontent and danger. Queen Anne, seeking to calm the situation, has sent money up from London for Scots who took part eight years earlier in the ill-fated Darien expedition that left Scotland all but bankrupt.

Good but not her best
Revisado: 11-22-22
It was difficult to get into the story. The narrator is excellent but his voice is much too mature . A younger voice would have made the story more believable .

Historia
Nicola Marter was born with a gift. When she touches an object, she sometimes glimpses those who have owned it before. When a woman arrives with a small wooden carving at the gallery Nicola works at, she can see the object’s history and knows that it was named after the Firebird - the mythical creature from an old Russian fable. Compelled to know more, Nicola follows a young girl named Anna who leads her into the past on a quest through the glittering backdrops of the Jacobites and Russian courts, unearthing a tale of love, courage, and redemption.

Another hit for Susanna
Revisado: 12-28-21
Loved the story. It had an interesting twist. The narration was very well done. Accents we exceptional. My only problem was the voice of the narrator was too mature for the leading character who needed to sound twenty something but sounded more like forty. It did not detract from the story, however, once I accepted the incongruity and I ended up loving the whole audible presentation

Historia
As America plunges into the Great Depression, Marthanne Hendrix finds herself in rural Vidalia, Georgia, with no memory of how she got there.
Bewildered when the neighbors call her Oma, Marthanne is haunted by memories of another life—and another self. With the help of Comfort, a domestic worker living with her own tremendous loss, Marthanne discovers that Oma is another distinct personality inhabiting her body. In a time when mental illness is taboo, Marthanne and Oma’s simple, small-town life is fraught with complexity and danger.
With gossip running rampant, Marthanne and Oma will do anything to avoid their greatest fear: commitment to an insane asylum. Only by relying on Comfort’s kindness can they navigate their uncertain future. Friendship becomes sanctuary, and the quest for an ordinary life leads to an extraordinary bond.
Deeply moving and exquisitely wrought, Show Me a Kindness is a haunting novel of love, survival, and hiding in plain sight.

Reflection on Comfort
Revisado: 01-13-21
Many things in life take us out of our comfort zone. Even reading about circumstances foreign to one's self make the mind reaflect on our biases and fears, and in the quiet of that reflection come to grips with those ideas that limit our field of acceptance. This is one of those books that opens the mind and heart to differences, leaving one just a little more tolerant and alot more free to love.

Slow and Predictable
Revisado: 12-29-19
Disappointing. I forced myself to finish this book hoping I would eventually find something endearing in the characters. The performance by the narrator was extraordinary, lending a redeeming quality to the story. However, I found the story slow and predictable. Not a book I plan to recommend.

I made it through, but it certainly is not a page-Turner. The story is predictable, slow moving and did not generate a connection for me with the characters. probably will not continue with the series.

This is a sensitive story of love, abandonment, and survival, but so much more. The characters are vivid and real, evoking emotion and establishing connection. I am going to miss them. The performance is very w4ll done. This book is a keeper.....and a sharer.

The story started off with intensity, but faded to predictability about midway through. The voice in the performance was disappointing, especially the Male voices. I was able to finish, but looked forward to getting to the end.
