Historia
It’s not simply that Dot Wilkinson was one of the most decorated women’s softball players, bowlers, and athletes of all time and one of the original players from the three-time-world-champion PBSW Phoenix Ramblers softball team (1933–1965). Nor was it the length of her time here on Earth—over a century—although any of these things by itself would be impressive. The magic of Dot’s story is in the details. Out at the Plate is the story of a forgotten era in women’s history and sports, and one extraordinary woman’s place at the center of it all.

What a life!
Revisado: 12-21-24
Although I know close to nothing about softball, I thoroughly enjoyed Dot’s story. What a work of love this book is. Such a complex woman who kept saying she “just wanted to play ball.”

Historia
Neve Blackthorne, head of one of the most successful Studios in Hollywood, is the one to rule them all. Powerful, beautiful, and aloof, she's ruthless, yet irresistible. Above all, she has an unquenchable survival instinct. Surely a fleeting entanglement with one Audrey Avens, a bright, young, rising star in her company, won't bring down the Wicked Queen of Tinseltown. Or will it? Neve's public persona has no chink in the untouchable armor, but when the lights go out and the cameras stop rolling, what becomes of an Ice Queen whose heart is ruled by love and fear?

One of the best reads I’d had in a while. Love Noa's voice and her unbiased knowledge of history and current events. A must read for all of us, Jews and Arabs, keffia wearing woke students, Zionists, Palestinians, left or right opinionated people. This book will surprise and change a lot of minds on all sides of the issue.

Historia
An American Tragedy is the story of Clyde Griffiths, who spends his life in the desperate pursuit of success. On a deeper, more profound level, it is the masterful portrayal of the society whose values both shape Clyde's ambitions and seal his fate; it is an unsurpassed depiction of the harsh realities of American life and of the dark side of the American dream.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Fan Fiction?
Revisado: 04-30-23
I have nothing against fan fiction, but please label it as such. I loved the story of boy and dog and was ready to love the rest, then boom, the story steals from my favorite books and shows.
From Harry Potter:dementor-like jailors, "he whose name should not be spoken."
Numerous elements "borrowed" from Game of Thrones:The Prince who was promised, in exactly those words. The night soldiers, AKA wights. The fighting tournaments for the rich folks. Calling each other c**ts. Knives stuck into eye sockets. Userpers, the King's Road and the King's guards.
I'm over the those established writers who write fan fiction and hope no one will notice. We read others. We notice. All that said, I do love all your other books, Mr. King.

Historia
Published posthumously in 1964, A Moveable Feast remains one of Ernest Hemingway's most beloved works. It is his classic memoir of Paris in the 1920s, filled with irreverent portraits of other expatriate luminaries such as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Gertrude Stein; tender memories of his first wife, Hadley; and insightful recollections of his own early experiments with his craft.

Historia
One sunny Spring morning, EJ's simple life is turned upside down when the town's master gardener unceremoniously hands her a stack of handwritten letters that have all been addressed to a nonexistent person at the garden. This simple act sets in motion a chain of events that will lead EJ on a life-altering quest to uncover the identity of the mysterious letter writer―and into a surprising head-on confrontation with the harsh realities of the racial injustice that is as deeply rooted in the life of her community as the ancient herbs cultivated in the Moravian garden.

Come on already with the political speeches
Revisado: 11-29-22
The story kept me listening, but I was bored to death with the all inclusive political correct speeches from all the characters. They were actresses whose career depended on appearing to be straight at a time before it became cool to be queer in the film industry. I didn't need to see lengthy and repetitive dialogues about it. Contemporary authors seem to want to bore me to death and I wish they'd just tell me a story. Besides, Celia was totally unreasonable when she broke up with Evelyn simply for being an actress who played a love scene. And again, we had to listen to Evelyn's made up excuses of why she played that part. She wanted to help women become proud of their sexuality? No. Give us a break. She was a sex symbol, that's why she did it, and she played a sexy part in a movie. She was an actress, not a political leader!!!!!!!

Historia
What does it mean to be a “woman” in America? Award-winning gender and sexuality scholar Lillian Faderman traces the evolution of the meaning from Puritan ideas of God’s plan for women to the sexual revolution of the 1960s and its reversals to the impact of such recent events as #metoo, the appointment of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, the election of Kamala Harris as vice president, and the transgender movement.

Excellence
Revisado: 10-04-22
Lillian Faderman takes us back in time through the last 400 years of US history. I found myself fascinated with stories new to me and delighted to meet again in historical context, figures such as botanist Suzanna Wright and left-wing radical Bernardine Dohrn. Ms. Faderman subtly warns us not to become complacent because the struggle continues. It’s a fabulous book.
