Historia
Orson Scott Card is a master storyteller, who has earned millions of fans and reams of praise for his previous science-fiction and fantasy works. Now he steps a little closer to the present day with this chilling look at a near-future scenario: a new American Civil War. The American Empire has grown too fast, the fault lines at home are stressed to the breaking point, and the war of words between Right and Left has collapsed into a shooting war.

The ending answered nothing and left many story lines in limbo. I enjoy the narrators.

Confusing. Many characters w/o enough backstory.
Revisado: 06-12-19
I am not a fan of the narrator but this is the first time I have preferred him over the story. Way too many characters introduced early without enough back story to help make sense of how they fit into the main story. Also, 3/4s through the book everyone but the main (1 of) character knows who he really is. It’s maddening and makes you want to 😱 “ Dude, let them tell you who you are”. So frustrated with this story and I do not recommend listening to it unless you love the narrator and want to hear him say over and over again “When you are ready, I can tell you who you are”.

He's headed to the top floor, on a mission to meet the goddess.

New take on a common theme - terrible narration
Revisado: 05-22-19
Really enjoyed this book and what would have made it a 5 star rating for me is if it hadn't been narrated by Nick Podehl. I do not like his narration at all. His accents are terrible and no matter what he is trying for it always sounds like a mix of Irish and Russian accents. Unfortunately the rest of the series is narrated by him so have to decide if its worth the aggravation of listening to Podehl or going out and buying a hard copy.

The daughter of a meth addict, she is convinced she was born a freak. Haunted by an abusive childhood, she was forced to become a woman far too soon. And in the process, she became more.

Great heroine and story. Extremely frightening portrayal of radicals and terrorism in today's world. My hope is terrorists never read this book as it might give them ideas.

Now it has become terrifyingly clear that the Chimes have the potential to bring down all that Richard and Kahlan have worked to protect, and even the power of the Sword of Truth may not be enough to stem the tide of their unleashed magical force. But if the Chimes cannot be stopped, first they will ravage Richard and Kahlan, then all of D'Hara, and then the entire world.

Quit changing narrators
Revisado: 09-10-17
I love the series. Have read the books. Hate that every book seems to be a different narrator. One book Zed is depicted as some feeble decrepit old man. Another book Khalan's name is unrecognizable (Karlin?) and on and on it goes. Makes starting the next book a chore of suffering through accent and pronunciation changes.

In the wake of a fever that decimated the earth's population - killing women and children and making childbirth deadly for the mother and infant - the midwife must pick her way through the bones of the world she once knew to find her place in this dangerous new one. Gone are the pillars of civilization. All that remains is power - and the strong who possess it.

Too short for such a good story
Revisado: 05-10-17
First female narrator encountered that I actually could stand. I love this story and it really drew me in. The main character is gritty and believable. The story is basically about the subjugation of women in a post flu apocalyptic world. It is raw and unapologetic. My only complaint is that it is too short and the next book has a different female narrator. Hate it when author's do not use the same narrators in series. Hopefully I can stand the new narrator as I am definitely invested in the story.

Historia
Having two of his fingers cut off at an early age hadn't done much to make Xandrith an agreeable fellow. Besides marking him as a pariah and having him shunned by even his own family, it had also hurt. A lot. Being stripped of a few of his fingers and cast out of the Order of Mages had left him bitter and angry, but if there was any consolation to be had it was that he was doing rather well in his new line of work. While perforating people for money might not have been the most noble of callings, it was quite lucrative.

Somewhat weak storyline made worse by narrator
Revisado: 09-12-16
This story has all kinds of promise and was interesting enough to finish listening too despite a bad narrator. I wonder if authors vet their narrators or if they have to pay more for better ones. Terrible accents, inappropriate emotions and just overall bad cadence. I will not listen to another book with this narrator and I might take a chance on another book by Pfaff as long as McSorely is not the narrator.

Great story and a very long listen.
Revisado: 12-27-15
I really enjoyed this book but found myself puzzled at the ending. I will not spoil it for those who might buy this. I only ask if someone else can figure out the beginning piece where someone is in a dungeon and marry it up to the ending please let me know. I wonder if the author lost the thread over this 60+ hour narration. The narrator, while not the best I have heard was certainly decent enough to carry the story and voices throughout. I have not listened to anything by this author before but I may search for more. Overall a good book, worth the price of one credit but I'd hesitate paying full price.

Having a difficult time getting through this one. Does not help that the narrator is annoying but the story so far, and I am well over half way in, does not seem to be going anywhere. Will stick it out to end but doubt I will continue with the series.
