Historia
FBI Agent Jake Carlisle is in deep trouble. While undercover he's been shot, but he's not sure if it's the crooks or local cops behind it. Worse, if he can't get help fast, two lives will be lost - his and that of the young witness, a boy whom he's sworn to protect. On the run from both the police and the Russian Mafia, Jake will do anything to save the child at his side, even something illegal. In desperation he kidnaps a nurse from a hospital parking lot.

couldn't finish this one
Revisado: 12-04-20
I really gave this book a few tries. The character's relationships are so far out of the range of even a tiny bit believable, illogical, and inconsistent that it was impossible for me to suspend reality and get through this book. I made it half way, but am throwing in the towel to avoid pulling a muscle from all of the eye-rolling this book elicits.

Wish I had known about religious component
Revisado: 09-30-20
I made it about an hour in and stopped to see if I missed the blurb including that there's a heavy Christian component to this story. I didn't end up finishing because it's not my jam. Hopefully this might be a helpful heads-up to other audiobookers considering this book.

Historia
In 1997, Ronald "Knight" McKnight was the meanest, most misunderstood boy at Peach State High School...perhaps on the entire planet. Knight hated everyone, except for me, BB - the perky, quirky punk chick with the locker next to his. I, on the other hand, liked everybody...except for Knight. I was scared sh*tless of him, actually. All I wanted was to marry Prince Eric-lookalike and king of the Peach State High punk scene, Lance Hightower, and have a million of his babies. Unfortunately for me, Knight was even better at getting his way than I was.

Wow, wow, wow
Revisado: 05-19-19
This story is one that I know will stick with me for a long time to come. BB's writing made it easy to connect with the emotional rollercoaster this story takes you on. I laughed, I cried, I fumed. The underlying message throughout the book that everyone deserves to be loved, no matter their situation or self opinion is powerful.
Ramona Master's narration is superb.
I would highly recommend this book, and look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Historia
Emma decided to skip the gym and went home early. It was the last easy decision she made because she found her roommate being raped by her boyfriend. She had two choices: Call the cops and be killed by his family's mafia connections or kill him first and hope to survive. There was no choice to her. She killed the bastard first and went to the one person who could protect her: Carter Reed. He's a weapon

Get this girl some dang smelling salts
Revisado: 04-12-19
The heroine drove me batty. First, she has the constitution of tissue paper. How many times can someone nearly collapse, or fall off a chair? Good gravy, lady. Get it together and deal. Next, she suddenly decides to go rogue and confront the mob by herself? She's inconsistent at best, and bafflingly incompetent at worst.
The storyline has some major holes, and there is a lot missing in between unnecessary rambling.
The narrator was great and her contributions made the story less painful to slog through.
I'm not sure why there are so many raving reviews on this.

McKay-Taggart operative Riley Blade has no intention of returning to Los Angeles after his brief stint as a consultant on mega-star Lyle Tarpin’s latest action flick. Not even for Natasha Black, Tarpin’s sexy personal assistant who’d gotten under his skin. Why would he, when Tasha made it absolutely clear that - attraction or not - she wasn’t interested in a fling, much less a relationship. But when Riley learns that someone is stalking her, he races to her side.

Tense switch frustration
Revisado: 03-11-19
I didn't love this one. The main female's narrative was done in the present tense, and the main dude's was in past tense. I found that so distracting that it was really difficult to stay immersed in the story.
Although other reviewers mentioned they didn't like Ryan West's reading, I actually thought it was good, and the tense switching was what I didn't like.
The storyline overall was okayish, though somewhat unbelievable as a part of the MT world (showing up to the club already dressed, somehow being able to afford beachfront property in Malibu)...maybe it was just that it didn't seem well researched? I'd still listen to it to not miss out on a MT storyline, but I wish I would have been more mentally prepared that it would be one to slog through.

Baby doll narrative voice
Revisado: 01-19-19
This one was difficult to finish. Lexi's narration of Kimber was in a baby doll/child's voice and it was like nails on a chalkboard. Deke seemed kicked back and smooth in the first book of the series, then was a borderline neurotic ass in this one. Overall, it was an eh/eye rolling experience.

Great story. Flat narration. Cliffhanger ending.
Revisado: 12-11-18
I really enjoyed this book. The story was great, though the narrator was very monotone. I did find that it didn't bother me as much after I got used to it after the first couple of chapters. Not a deal-breaker. I questioned the heroine's choices at the end of the book, and we are left on the cliffiest of cliffs, but I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Plot holes and use of, "as God as my witness" 🙄
Revisado: 12-03-18
I tried. I really did. Spoiler warning ahead: I could get past the eye-roll-summoning heroine basing her romantic path on a vision with her track record of one vision coming true in her past. Sort of. The person tailing her would obviously know it was the firefighter who swept her house and killed the bugs while he watched, though they supposedly didn't put that together, despite being the ring leaders of some underground dirty cop et al ring? Why would an FBI agent kill the bugs if he was trying to maintain his cover as a firefighter? I don't buy it. Where it really jumped the shark was the, "as god as my witness" declaration and the invitation to move in, though they hadn't even slept together? Oh, also ending on a super obnoxious cliffhanger. Definitely do not waste a credit on this one. That is, unless your eye rolling muscles need a solid workout.
**update**
Some of the plot holes are resolved in the second book, which makes it more tolerable, and has me continuing to listen to the series just because I've already started it.
Some other reviewers have commented on the narrator's tendency to take gasping breaths frequently, and I find that doesn't bother me as much as her ditzy baby doll voice she puts on. I imagine most of her female voices as some wide-eyed ninnies, grasping at their pearls, and seeking out their smelling salts. Or maybe I imagine her reading to toddlers. She would be so much better suited to read small children's books. I wonder if I would like the series better if they had a better fit for the narrator.

Historia
Tia Monroe was smart, sassy, and successful. Sure, she could get a little crazy at times - life around Tia was never boring - but that was part of her appeal. And while she didn't see herself as classically beautiful, she had no shortage of options in the boyfriend department. She just hadn't found one who held her interest. Until she laid eyes on Eric Larsson, and then it was lust at first sight. He packed the perfect mix of smoldering sexy and unapologetic cool into his blond-haired, blue-eyed, ridiculously hot six-foot-four frame.

I laughed out loud!
Revisado: 11-25-18
I really enjoyed this book. It was laugh-out-loud funny, the characters were well-developed, and the pace was great! On top of all of that, the narration was fantastic. I really enjoyed the heroine's inner monologue, especially when she let it slip out, and found myself wishing I knew what the other characters' inner reactions were to her thoughts. Great book, I'd definitely recommend it!

Did not finish
Revisado: 11-10-18
I could only get through a few chapters. The narrator makes the male characters sound like they have emphysema. Something in her cadence and intonation made it hard to follow the story. I gave the story a neutral review, because I didn't get far enough to have a solid opinion outside of there being a lot of characters to keep track of right out of the gate, and insta-love from just a look. Eh. I might give the text version a go, but it won't be a priority for me.
