Not remotely funny, overtly political and a complete waste of my time.

Excellent read
Revisado: 09-24-18
When they are on top of their game, Charles Todd can't be beat. They do not disappoint here.
This is Ian before Hamish, and while it took a bit of getting used to NOT hearing him, it was interesting to see the healthy Ian.
The mystery was also top notch. It was complex, but it was interesting to see all the pieces and try to work out how they all fit together (and they did all fit in the end). There was one small leap of logic in there, but I found the book good enough not to be bothered by it.

Not too long from today, a new, highly contagious virus makes its way across the globe. Most who get sick experience nothing worse than flu, fever, and headaches. But for the unlucky one percent - and nearly five million souls in the United States alone - the disease causes "Lock In": Victims fully awake and aware, but unable to move or respond to stimulus. The disease affects young, old, rich, poor, people of every color and creed. The world changes to meet the challenge.

Enjoying Scalzi's works
Revisado: 09-05-18
I picked this up because I read The Dispatcher and very much enjoyed it.
I wasn't disappointed.
I am not a hard core sci-fi fan, but I did very much enjoy the book. The murder mystery subplot worked very well for me. The science/futuristic parts were well handled. The characters were interesting and there was enough humor to carry it all along. I will be trying more of his books.

Good read
Revisado: 09-05-18
This is a YA novel, so it isn't surprising I found the "mystery" subplot a little too juvenile for my taste, but the depiction of mental illness makes it well worth the read.

Historia
Graham Greene’s evocative analysis of the love of self, the love of another, and the love of God is an English classic that has been translated for the stage, the screen, and even the opera house. Academy Award-winning actor Colin Firth (The King’s Speech, A Single Man) turns in an authentic and stirring performance for this distinguished audio release.

Problematic and not for me
Revisado: 08-27-18
The main character is an unpleasant, self-centered stalker who seems to confuse obsession with love and doesn't grasp the concept of "no means no".
The female "saintly" character commits adultery and knowingly causes pain and doesn't have much of a spine.
The whole "come to God" argument seems a bit lost when the coming is bitter and solely out of anger. Maurice's "belief" in the end is more unpleasant surrender than faith.
What is good about the book is Greene's use of the language. It is beautiful writing.
What us phenomenal about the audiobook is Firth's reading. He is an amazing narrator.

Good light mysteries
Revisado: 08-26-18
The Cherringham mystery stories are great light mystery reads. They are not great literature, nor are they the most gripping mysteries around. They are, however, good stories with great characters and good enough plots to keep you engaged. Neil Dudgeon is a great narrator.
I do think the earlier sets were stronger, but would still recommend these latest stories.

A trip to Milan to help Holocaust survivor Sol Bezzecca recover a pair of cherished sketches by Renoir. They’d once been given to Sol’s family by the artist, looted by the Italian Fascist militia, and now after decades in hiding have turned up for auction. It’s Val’s job to get them back. Unfortunately, his Italian adventure takes a dangerous turn when he becomes trapped in an intricate web.

Good art and history lesson...
Revisado: 08-22-18
...but a very weak mystery. It was so predictable that I actually knew who did it and why the minute the first crime was committed.
The good:
There is a lot of interesting bits about art, art history and Italian history.
The scene setting was well done for the most part.
The bad:
The mystery is really not good. It is slow and completely and utterly predictable
The side/supporting characters were not well drawn.
The meh:
The main character was not very engaging.
The narration seemed very slow to me.
I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them. Unfortunately, this one just fell very short.
I got it free from Amazon Unlimited, so at least I didn't waste a credit on it.

Not the strongest of the series
Revisado: 08-19-18
Okay, I love this series, but this book was a weak link. The plotting was not as strong as I've come to expect from these books and the ending (or lack of one ) was a hot mess. They didn't even tie up one of the major sub-plots.
I will keep on with the series since when they are good they are VERY good. This one was just a disappointment.

Meh
Revisado: 08-18-18
I really did not enjoy this book. I found the writing flat, the plot predictable and figured out the "surprise twist" fairly early on. There were a couple plots holes large enough to march a platoon through.
The narrators did a yeomans' job with the material.

Historia
When a grisly murder occurs on the Isle of Lewis that bears similarities to a brutal killing on the mainland, Edinburgh detective Fin Macleod is dispatched to the Outer Hebrides to investigate, embarking at the same time on a voyage into his own troubled past. As Fin reconnects with the people and places of his tortured childhood, the beautiful island and its ancient customs once again begin to assert their grip on his psyche. Every step toward solving the case brings Fin closer to a confrontation with the dark events of the past that shaped - and nearly destroyed - his life.

Revisado: 08-17-18
I have no clue why this book was listed as a "police procedural", or even as a murder mystery for that matter. The mystery was almost an afterthought (and completely predictable).
That said, the character studies, the scene setting, and story of Fin's life were actually interesting and the writing is top notch. May's writing style is very engaging. I might even read the rest of the series...albeit I won't hold my breath for a mystery.
For those, like me, who prefer not to read about animal killings, be prepared to skip the bird hunt. It was grim.
The narrator was wonderful.
