I was nearly put off by negativity about this narrator.

How much I would have missed! She was a bit stilted at first, but grew into the part beautifully. I would enjoy listening to her again. The story was compelling: complex, philosophical, emotional, intellectual. Great fun.

Historia
On May 1, 1915, with WWI entering its tenth month, a luxury ocean liner as richly appointed as an English country house sailed out of New York, bound for Liverpool, carrying a record number of children and infants. The passengers were surprisingly at ease, even though Germany had declared the seas around Britain to be a war zone. For months, German U-boats had brought terror to the North Atlantic.

With moments of fascinating information. Shame on Winston Churchill. What happened to turners wife and children? Why separated? What was their response to turner's trial charade?

Tranquil light
Revisado: 11-23-15
What an apt title for an exquisite journey of the best and deepest gifts of the human heart- while riding the tidal wave of China's violent, even dark history. As redemptive a read as I can remember.
Reader was excellent but this would have greatly benefitted by the addition of a female reader speaking for the wife.

Highly recommended

THe narrator was spectacular.
The story was part romance, part mystery, part psychology- very well handled with finely woven strands of humor, insight and momentum. Excellent writing on the whole. THe only flaw was gratuitous vulgarity which irritated me and cheapened the whole thing. The ending was anticipated, but fun and refreshing. Great protagonist.
