Eric Greitens memoir stands out as more than another account of the difficulty involved in joining one of America's elite special operations units. Although the author is a Rhodes Scholar, and highly articulate, he keeps his narrative accessible while remaining intelligent and thought provoking.

This book details the evolution of a man, during which he pauses to highlight key moments and lessons. Those impactful moments contain principles applicable to students, teachers, humanitarians, and military members, to name a few. Any person seeking to positively influence their surroundings would do well to get this book.

An incredible tale of perseverance and leadership in one of Earth's most inhospitable regions. The narrator's use of various accents from the UK gives the characters vibrant color against the monochromatic background of the Antarctic. Endurance stands as one of the great adventure stories from the twilight of the age of exploration.

First and foremost, this is not an audio book, it is a full-scale theatrical production complete with Star Wars music, sound effects and superb narration.

From where the story starts to where the story ends is a true tour de force. The size and complexity of the tale prove to be strengths and weaknesses - there are times when the book feels like it tries to do a little too much, which is my only notable critique. Aside from that, it is an in-depth look into the rise of Darths Plagueis and Sidious as well as the history of the Sith. The attitudes and philosophies of the main characters show that their drive for power was more nuanced than simply "taking over the galaxy". How the characters arrive in their final stations greatly personalizes this interstellar tale. So, the 4/5 stars for story should really be a solid 4.5.

Darth Plagueis is well worth the time and a feature length movie would be an excellent set up for the cinematic Star Wars saga.

Sean Naylor's account of Operation Anaconda will go down as one of the great books detailing the war in Afghanistan after 9/11. This work is an essential case study on the fog and friction of war, the clumsiness of the military bureaucracy, and the impact of leaders' egos on making sound decisions. "Not a Good Day to Die" is gripping, inspiring, and, gut-wrenching.

With all that praise, it is unfortunate that I can't give it five stars. While the narrator cannot be described as monotone, he has a very predictable, even flat, range of inflection. The story is strong enough to mostly overcome the rather static narration, but I still found it distracting at times. I highly recommend listening to a sample before buying.

All that being said, this is a fascinating story. Whether you listen to or read this book, it is a notable and worthwhile facet of post-9/11 military history.
