A Great Non-Fiction Cold War Spy Story

This is a really taught audiobook that’s a biography on a converted Russian spy that changes his allegiances due to his moral affinity to the West. It’s a great tale taking us back to the height of the Cold War where nuclear war and analog spies were so prevalent during this time. It provides great detail on a Russian spy and the personal and professional toll that he took, in order to provide MI6 with details on the KGB, to give democracy an edge during this perilous time. There is also a thrilling level of storytelling that describes his potential extraction to the West.

The author ties up the many character stories in neat fashion with creativity and honor. It’s a mix of 19th century Sicilian history, with the flair of a mix of the crimes, culture and setting that led way to the Mafia. A very creative mix of rich characters and the challenges of a caste society that pushed people to do horrible things.
