Historia
It is an era that redefined history. As the 1790s began, a fragile America teetered on the brink of oblivion, Russia towered as a vast imperial power, and France plunged into revolution. But in contrast to the way conventional histories tell it, none of these remarkable events occurred in isolation.

Historia
Ancient Egyptian civilization is so grand our minds sometimes have difficulty adjusting to it. It lasted 3,000 years, longer than any other on the planet. Its Great Pyramid of Cheops was the tallest building in the world until well into the 19th century and remains the only Ancient Wonder still standing. And it was the most technologically advanced of the ancient civilizations, with the medical knowledge that made Egyptian physicians the most famous in the world.

Historia
Twilight of the Gods is a riveting account of the harrowing last year of World War II in the Pacific, when the US Navy won the largest naval battle in history; MacArthur made good his pledge to return to the Philippines; waves of kamikazes attacked the Allied fleets; the Japanese fought to the last man on one island after another; B-29 bombers burned down Japanese cities; and Hiroshima and Nagasaki were vaporized. Toll's narratives of combat in the air, at sea, and on the beaches are gripping, but he also takes the listener into the halls of power in Washington and Tokyo.

the whole series is excellent

this gives a very in-depth and personal view of the Pacific theater in world war II without getting too much in the weeds but being extremely comprehensive. I enjoyed all three books immensely.....

Among the most celebrated and beloved novels of 2021, Anthony Doerr’s gorgeous third novel is a triumph of imagination and compassion, a soaring story about children on the cusp of adulthood in worlds in peril, who find resilience, hope—and a book. In Cloud Cuckoo Land, Doerr has created a magnificent tapestry of times and places that reflects our vast interconnectedness—with other species, with each other, with those who lived before us, and with those who will be here after we’re gone.

It was just okay.. i was expecting much more
Revisado: 02-01-22
I had higher hopes for this. Its a good narrative on ski towns, and the ski industry.. but like other reviews, the book comes off as whiny and it got old hearing about the old days with no inspiration.

slow predictable boring
Revisado: 10-19-21
just wanted to finish it. i just wanted it to be over. completely boring the narrator was just okay. the author went into great detail on everything which most of the time didn't add anything to the book. I could not have cared less for any of the characters. I just wanted the book to end.... and the ending was an extreme let down as well. I struggled to get this thing two stars.

a well told story retold
Revisado: 09-21-21
there's some new interesting facts on a very well told story/movies/documentaries. the last chapter was an odd addition to the story and the actors the voice actors in the last chapter were painful to listen to especially the grandfather it was like rubbing a cheese grater on your ears. otherwise it was just a good rendition of a well-told and the book was free through audible subscription.
