Historia
Throughout much of human history, our most important stories were passed down orally - including the stories about Jesus before they became written down in the Gospels. In this fascinating and deeply researched work, leading Bible scholar Bart D. Erhman investigates the role oral history has played in the New Testament - how the telling of these stories not only spread Jesus' message but helped shape it.

Loved it! The clearest study of early Christianity I've found to date; specifically on the nature of memory and how that can inform us what likely transpired to remember Jesus in the ways Christians did. A beautiful ending as well, appreciating the good and discarding the chaff of minutiae arguments.

Historia
The early Christian Church was a chaos of contending beliefs. Some groups of Christians claimed that there was not one God but two or twelve or thirty. Some believed that the world had not been created by God but by a lesser, ignorant deity. Certain sects maintained that Jesus was human but not divine, while others said he was divine but not human.

so fascinating! will listen through again
Revisado: 03-13-22
Bart Ehrman reveals the facts of early Christian beliefs that we have forgotten or lost in a fair and unreligious way. Very refreshing and very much worth the read!

biased genuine Christian reasoning
Revisado: 12-17-21
Keller: "When we build our lives on anything but God, that thing, whatever it is, although it is a good thing, becomes an inflating addiction."
I was recommended this book to have a discussion with a pastor afterward. I managed to get through it with difficulty as I felt the author's reasoning was very biased and unfair against non-Christians. The example above from chapter 6 shows that the author believes that anyone not relying on God (meaning Yahweh) cannot live a properly balanced life. This may contradict a later point that Christians should expect to find nonbelievers who are more balanced, upright, and moral than themselves BECAUSE of their LACK of faith in Christ. He reasons that such people are trying to be perfect. But no one can be perfect so their self-righteousness will fail them. And while that might be true of some, Keller fails to realize that nonchristians understand that they can't be perfect. People can find a realistic moral framework which includes grace and forgiveness (positive self sacrifice for the betterment of others) without God. That's one example of the author's bias.
If you're interested in knowing the genuine reasoning of thoughtful Christians, I believe this book does a good job of defining that. As a skeptical recent ex-Christian, however, I felt I could see through many of the arguments.
I did come across a scant few thought-provoking ideas and challenges to help define my faith, but overall I feel I'm left with a series of arguments that need to be shown for what they are: bad reasoning.

Historia
Intellectuals and Race is a radical book in the original sense - one that goes to the root of the problem. The role of intellectuals in racial strife is explored in an international context that puts the American experience in a wholly new light. The book explores the incentives, the visions, and the rationales that drive intellectuals at the highest levels to conclusions that have often turned out to be counterproductive and even disastrous, not only for particular racial or ethnic groups but for societies as a whole.

Technically lectures based on the chapters of Good to Great

I preferred the way Chip made his book into lectures instead of exact script-reading of the book. Passionate and nearly as detailed as the book itself. Thank you for this version!
