Historia
An FBI team arrives March 6, 2020, in a small Florida surfing village to investigate a series of terrorist attacks. The Bureau has a hot lead on a woman with a violent past and instructions to work with the local deputy, JP Barnett. Barnett's overly relaxed and incompetent techniques are instantly at odds with the federal agents. While the team awaits the terrorist specialty group from FBI headquarters, the local deputy seems to be doing his best to divert the investigation. The federal investigators are bewildered by the quirky locals and everyone's party-at-the-beach attitude.

The Mystery Is Lesser Than The Character Sketches

Don’t read, there’s very little here.
Revisado: 04-30-23
The premise of the story was solid. Mysterious crimes occurring in a sleepy Florida town; by the book FBI Agents and a relaxed deputy have to partner to solve the crimes. That’s more or less where the good parts of the book end.
There actual mystery receives little attention. The deputy is able to derail any meaningful work by the FBI Agents by stalling them at his favorite restaurant. Each time they eat there they fixate on how the food is better than anything anyone had before. There is more detail spent on the flavors and perfection of each meal than the crimes committee. While both the readers and Agents are distracted by the authors fixation on food, various townspeople follow the deputies his hunches to solve the crime.
The author spends more time focusing on the race and dress/attractiveness of characters than their contribution to the case itself. He had a weird fixation with a “beautiful innocent doe” of a girl who was blinded by the criminal. The FBI agent that receives the most attention is a young girl of Japanese descent, who is not surprisingly a math whiz that wants to fit in and isn’t interested in small talk. Because she is a love interest of the protagonist, she’s portrayed as the only FBI agents who isn’t completely inept. The other two are more focused on arresting locals for small crimes than they are at solving the crime itself.
This book appears to be a reflection of:
* the authors disdain of government
* the authors love of food
* the authors love of all things classic rock
If you don’t like the word woke and like a light mystery that focuses on culinary references and cultural references and narratives commonplace in the 80s this book is for you.

Great read on dwindling generosity
Revisado: 02-04-23
The challenges facing the decline in trust in nonprofits, engagement with those organizations, and as a result, giving to what were once (and in some cases still are) institutions has negative societal repercussions far beyond the economic impact of the US nonprofit sector.
This artfully well crafted story of points to the reasons generosity as this nation has known it for years is declining. Michael, Nathan, and Brian highlight the painfully transactional nature that many givers feel whose gifts or net worth are not big enough for organizations to spend personal time building relationships. If you’re not a “major donor”, and even if you are, the most common form of communication is an ask for money. This compounded with for-profits more targeted communication strategies, the age of CSR, and nonprofit watchdogs fixated more on overhead than outcomes has created a crisis. They posture that the solution is radical connection; not entirely new the first step is to understand money follows a relationship. Christian Titus does a great job of making this an easy listen. Strongly recommend for any in the nonprofit fundraising space.

Some good tips, a lot of bad ones
Revisado: 02-26-22
This book has some good practices but a lot of effort and emphasis is put into bad fundraising processes that don’t lead to sustainable revenue such as bake sales.

Could have been 2 chapters
Revisado: 09-16-20
The book is good. He explains the value of earned income outside of your 9-5 and classic IRA and mutual fund investments. Most of the book is him repeating things and not progressing the story too far. Basic concepts are good but he could have done that in 2 hours with the 2 dad storyline.

Historia
The tide is turning against the colonists in the Revolutionary War, and 18-year-old Elizabeth Morris cannot sit by idly. Quietly disdainful of her Tory parents, who drag her along to society events and welcome a British soldier into their home during their occupation of New York City, Elizabeth decides to take matters into her own hands. She realizes that, as a young woman, no one around her believes that she can comprehend the profound implications of being a nation at war - she is, effectively, invisible. And she can use this invisibility to her advantage.

Historia
Since the 1950s, nonprofits have relied on impersonal outreach to inspire generosity from their donors. They leveraged direct mail, mass marketing, and event fundraising to drive donations. With the introduction of social media, smartphones, and a hyper-connected world, everything changed. The new normal for everyone became transparency, personalization, and a feeling of ever-present engagement. In addition, donors also had new levels of access to information to the causes they cared about. Unfortunately, as expectations evolved, nonprofit fundraisers failed to keep up.

A must read for the modern fundraiser
Revisado: 05-17-20
This lays the foundation for the way nonprofits should fundraise. It highlights the ways nonprofits should communicate with and more importantly listen to donors and connected individual that could become donors. In a series of stories Gabe lays out the ways that modern nonprofits are losing ground to for profits that offer social good benefits to consumers, primarily because of the hyper focus through which for profit companies pay attention to and communicate with their clients online. Gabe lays the plan out for determining the personas of your constituents and how to think about communicating with them. The time of most constituents and donors getting a virtually identical letter at the same time is gone, nonprofits that adapt to the responsive process will thrive, others will struggle to continue receiving similar levels of contributed revenue.

Historia
Dunbar-Ortiz adroitly challenges the founding myth of the United States and shows how policy against the Indigenous peoples was colonialist and designed to seize the territories of the original inhabitants, displacing or eliminating them. And as Dunbar-Ortiz reveals, this policy was praised in popular culture, through writers like James Fenimore Cooper and Walt Whitman, and in the highest offices of government and the military.

Good background
Revisado: 10-14-19
There’s a good background of what the First Nations in the US endured at the hands of colonists and the US as it matured as a nation. Parts of the book are shared out of order and much of the end focuses on US military activity abroad and some political theory. The thousands of years prior to colonization receive marginal attention, perhaps there isn’t that much known. It’s good to understand the plight of these peoples and how the genocide occurred. There’a extra that doesn’t seem terribly relevant to the history of First Nation States that the author expands on while identifying issues with the US
