Historia
Since her husband’s unsolved murder three years ago, Iris Blodgett’s life has unraveled. Awash in grief and buried in debt, she can’t pay her mortgage—and now that she’s lost her job, she has no idea how she’ll provide for her unruly teenage daughter, Ellory. Facing eviction, Iris turns to her new beau, prominent architect Hugh Smoll, for a shoulder to cry on. But the seemingly perfect Hugh offers her something more: an invitation to move in to his mother’s centuries-old mansion while he renovates the property.

Compelling Story Diffused By Overacting Performers
Revisado: 04-28-25
This was a book I wished I had read myself, because Emily & Ashley's voices started to annoy me with both of their overacting narrations. It nearly caused me to abort listening, but I kept on listening in respect for the Garner's story. However, the final chapter took it too far, and I felt like I was lied to after having had committed to finishing it. Take away the final chapter, and it would've ended much better. I will try another book by Katie Garner, but I will read it myself, and I won't be able to listen to another audiobook read by both of these performers. The breathy, staccato voice of the one caused multiple eyerolls, and the other one's monotonous alto voice made me tired.

Historia
Authors June Hayward and Athena Liu were supposed to be twin rising stars: same year at Yale, same debut year in publishing. But Athena’s a cross-genre literary darling, and June didn’t even get a paperback release. Nobody wants stories about basic white girls, June thinks. So when June witnesses Athena’s death in a freak accident, she acts on impulse: she steals Athena’s just-finished masterpiece, an experimental novel about the unsung contributions of Chinese laborers to the British and French war efforts during World War I.

plot
Revisado: 08-03-24
The plot was the reason I bought this book, because it reminded me of other stories/movies of people stealing others' works, and I wanted to find out what happens. The protagonist's voice in the first half was stronger than the rest of the novel. I grew to not like the protagonist as the book reached the final half, and the final climax could have been stronger.

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Heartbreakingly Beautiful Love Story
Revisado: 01-30-23
After seeing the movie, I just had to read (or rather listen to) the book. It was just as good as the movie. I loved their relationship and how Sicilian food was part of their love story, and it makes me want to go to Sicily just for the food. But I also loved how she grew in so many ways from his diagnosis to the end and even into the beginning of her next chapter of life without him. She learned so much, and sharing her lessons was enlightening, despite how sad it was. I truly loved their story and will most likely listen to this again sometime.

Historia
It’s been five years since the accident that killed the love of her life and she’s almost a new person now—an artist with her own studio and sharing a brownstone apartment with her ride-or-die best friend, Joy, who insists it’s time for Feyi to ease back into the dating scene. Feyi isn’t ready for anything serious, but a steamy encounter at a rooftop party cascades into a whirlwind summer she could have never imagined: a luxury trip to a tropical island, decadent meals in the glamorous home of a celebrity chef, and a major curator who wants to launch her art career.

Gritty and Realistic
Revisado: 06-25-22
At first I was a little startled by the raw, gritty descriptions, but then I realized how true and realistic this story seemed. It was a powerfully emotional story.

Loved it! Probably more so because Molly Shannon read it herself. Parts were really sad, but then other parts were "superstar" funny! Highly recommend. She's so wonderful.

Historia
Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells - taken without her knowledge - became one of the most important tools in medicine: The first “immortal” human cells grown in culture, which are still alive today, though she has been dead for more than 60 years. HeLa cells were vital for developing the polio vaccine; uncovered secrets of cancer, viruses, and the atom bomb’s effects.

Vital Story for Scientific Research
Revisado: 04-30-22
Skloot's book was riveting. She told an important story of an woman's life and her unknown contribution to cell research with scientific details that were easy to understand for the non-scientist. I liked how she meshed together the story of Henrietta along with the sciency stuff, because that's how it held my attention. Had it been all about the science, my mind might have glossed over it. But she made Henrietta a real person and not just a name. This book should be required reading for all Science & Biology majors in college.

Revisado: 02-11-22
Ever since seeing her film Pollyanna as a young girl myself, I have always loved Hayley Mills. This memoir is evidence that no matter what hardships she endured, she always came out on the brighter side still full of positivity. It was a treat to hear her voice narrating.

Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Entertaining & Fun Story
Revisado: 10-27-21
I wanted something fun to listen to, and the premise of the story intrigued me. Not only did I love the narrator's voice, but I loved the story, as well. It was very entertaining, and there were some surprise twists I didn't anticipate, so that made the story even better. I really enjoyed this audiobook!

Instead, I go home and cook a healthy dinner for our children, walk the dog, and unload the dishwasher without complaint. I need this marriage to work to protect a terrible secret of my own....

Entertaining Story
Revisado: 10-14-21
I loved the sound of this narrator's voice and would listen to her read anything. Aside from that, this author's story was very entertaining and suspenseful. Just when I thought I figured things out, I was wrong. I really enjoyed listening to this and highly recommend it.
