Best Way to Study History of Caribbean

Historical fiction can get confusing at times, especially as the generations go by and different islands/big families connect and overlap. But this was a great primer on the region, where the colonial era and fallout of racism has shaped the region into what it is today.

Good fictional, but accurate description of life in the mainland, insofar as it intersects with the main plot. Eye-opening view into life of an ethnic minority making her way in the modern world. The protagonist's long lost daughter becomes as much a part of the plot as her mother and grandmother.
