The book is simply tedious. Each action moment is interrupted for long rumination’s and all of this is read very slowly with the same cadence.

Its over ....
Revisado: 11-12-24
I am still listening but doubt I will finish. The story is not very interesting and it just goes on and on without much drama. I assume that it will all work out in the end in typical fashion as lately the storylines have been structurally similar. The patterns were getting old in recent years but the addition of the son to the writing is not working out, from my limited point of view. Maybe it is time to end this saga before it really gets stale.

This one is not one I could finish. It belongs to the kind where every action is immediately interrupted for an interminable digression on past events, technology, or whatever. It may easier on the page but I found it impossible to listen to. You just lose the narrative thread and give up,

Undetected by law enforcement, a vicious killer has been hunting women, using genetic data to select and stalk his targets.

I normally enjoy the author's books but found this one tedious, poorly written and incredibly repetitious. The main character is uninteresting and the secondary one, Rachel, unbelievably tedious. Did someone else write this?

Historia
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

Surprisingly weak--given the reviews

Any additional comments?
This book has an amazing number of very positive reviews, so I purchased it for mindless listening in the gym. I must say that I was very disappointed by what I heard. The story is hard to believe--it is so standard and unbelievable that it hurts, especially as it takes forever or the main character to figure out the nefarious plot that the listener has figured out way before him. To get there, you have to listen to countless screeds against everyone and everything, from clothing, architecture, food, and---time and again--against any figure in authority, be they military or civilian. This is right wing conspiracy theory on steroids, to use a cliche, since the writing here consists of a flow of banalities, it is apt. I am not objecting to the politics--one is used to this in this kind of novel--but to the simple-minded nature of the author's hatred for all government, indeed for any authority, and the simple-minded depiction of the nefarious characters that are out to get his hero at every turn. There is no subtlety here, just one-sided cartoon characters. The author and his hero need help! This is, of course, fantasy, but it is too negative, predictable and adolescent to hold attention for long, even though it is well read. I still cannot get over the positive reviews, since I am ditching it--cannot listen any more.

Historia
After five years on the run, Court Gentry is back on the inside at the CIA. But his first mission makes him wish he had stayed on the outs when a pair of Chinese agents try to take him down in Hong Kong. Normally the Chinese prefer to stay eyes-only on foreign agents. So why are they on such high alert? Court's high stakes hunt for answers takes him across Southeast Asia and leads to his old friend, Donald Fitzroy, who is being held hostage by the Chinese.

This is well plotted and less standardized than many such book series. Wonderful distraction from the vagaries of life. I have been listening to it while I work out and it is perfect--fewer long flashbacks and distractions than many such books. Different from earlier installments, but makes enough references to the earlier ones to provide a sense of continuity. The reader is quite well matched; I have one complaint. His pronunciation of Russian words is really very bad--he is not aloe in this, I recently listened to a book that had some French words completely butchered. Why cannot readers consult a native speaker for help before recording? I suppose they do not get paid well enough to prepare ....

Revisado: 08-14-16
Unworthy of this author. The story line is thin and uninteresting but much worse is the psychological improbability of the actions off all the characters. At the heart of it lies a simple and contrived family drama that leads to endless flashbacks and inner monologues that are dimply childish. Waste of time and money.

Historia
New York Times best-selling author and award-winning broadcaster Tavis Smiley recounts the final 365 days of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s life, revealing the minister's trials and tribulations - denunciations by the press, rejection from the president, dismissal by the country's Black middle class and militants, assaults on his character, ideology, and political tactics, to name a few - all of which he had to rise above in order to lead and address the racism, poverty, and militarism that threatened to destroy our democracy.

A poor turn for a good series
Revisado: 02-19-15
What would have made No Tomorrow better?
Badly needs an editor. There are too many places where the narration goes on and on without any purpose but to make it longer, interrupting the story line, or whatever there is of it.
What was most disappointing about Tom Wood’s story?
The story line is weak and contrived. The biggest problem, to me, is the character of Giselle, the woman that the hero is trying to protect. Her character is so annoying and unbelievable that halfway through I simply could not care less about her survival; to the contrary, I began to wish for her end. The assassin's reaction to her silly talk is also unbelievable and out of character. The story is weak and predictable, with occasional violence for its own sake.
What does Rob Shapiro bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Shapiro is a very good narrator and he works well with this series. However, it would be good if he could get some advice on pronouncing foreign words. In a series that uses foreign locales all the time and keeps returning to Russia, it is silly that Russian and other languages are so badly mangled. Especially annoying is Daha for Datcha ...
Any additional comments?
I like the series and hope that it gets back in the saddle. I could not finish this one ...

Historia
NYPD Detective Jeremy Fisk hunts an assassin working for a shadowy cartel in this action-charged second installment of Dick Wolf's New York Times best-selling series, a masterful thriller that blends politics, intrigue, and twisting suspense. A number of bodies are discovered on the United States' border with Mexico, each carved with a bizarre symbol: a hummingbird. Detective Cecilia Garza, dubbed the Ice Queen among her colleagues at the Mexican intelligence agency because she's famous for never showing an ounce of weakness, arrives at the scene and recognizes the image immediately; it is the calling card of a killer called Chuparosa.

Any additional comments?
This book badly needs an editor, or a better one. The author is obsessed with describing everything around the protagonists to the point of absurdity, interrupting the flow of the story so that it is impossible to follow. He also does this in the form of digressions that make little sense. I will not give away anything if I note that close to the beginning here is a prolonged shootout, but it is interrupted by a completely superfluous memory flashback that is irritating and infuriating. Perhaps reading this one could skip easily, but that is harder to do with an audiobook. I finally became so frustrated with the pedantic descriptions and the interruptions of the narrative that i gave up.
