Historia
This is the story of two women struggling for supremacy in a man's world, when no one thought a woman could govern. They both had to negotiate with men - those who wanted their power and those who wanted their bodies - who were determined to best them. In their worlds, female friendship and alliances were unheard of, but for many years theirs was the only friendship that endured. They were as fascinated by each other as lovers; until they became enemies. Enemies so angry and broken that one of them had to die, and so Elizabeth ordered the execution of Mary.

A fascinating insight into these two Queens...
Revisado: 07-22-22
I highly recommend this audio book. The narrative is compelling, engaging and above all, accurate. It is fascinating to get insight into both Mary and Elizabeth not only as Queens but as women. I love the insight I gained, being able to evaluate how where one was strong, the other weak. I've often felt Mary was a victim of circumstances and thus have an amount of pity for her, although much of her misery she brought upon herself through poor marriage decisions and being too trusting of those Scottish Lords surrounding her. Elizabeth commanded respect, and as such, her advisors/counslers wouldn't dare dream of treating her in the same manner Mary was treated. However, at the end of the day, I do believe while Mary was no dummy, she lacked the overall great intellectual ability that Elizabeth had.
It is fascinating to see where these two monarchs were also jealous of each other. while under the pretense of being sisterly towards each other. It was rare having one Queen, let alone two being on the same island. it is quite obvious that Elizabeth was rightfully jealous of Mary's great Beauty, while Mary was jealous of the respect Elizabeth demanded and received by not only her people, but her counselors.
Frankly, if Mary did not make the initial mistake of marrying Darnley, her life would have been drastically different, and we never would have seen her even more disastrous marriage to Bothwell.
All of the above insight I obtained through this book, and as such, again I highly recommend it. I'm kinda sad it's over.

Great listen!
Revisado: 12-12-18
I have read the paperback version a few times but this was the first audible listen. I know many people disliked the narration but I personally enjoyed it. I don’t care that the narration didn’t include different voices for each of the characters.
I found this to be an enjoyable yet short audiobook and through listening, I picked up on some things I must’ve skipped over or failed to understand when I read the paperback.
Here are my suggestions to anyone who is skeptical: Listen to a sample on the Audible app before purchasing to see if the narration is to your liking. If you proceed and buy, keep in mind you can always return it and get your money or credit back. Speaking on behalf of myself, I have an Audible account and get one credit per month. I have returned audiobooks I haven’t liked before without any issues.
Happy listening!

Historia
“Sam, could you do me a favor?” Thus begins a story that has now become part of America's true-crime hall of fame. It is a gory, grotesque tale befitting a Stephen King novel. It is also a David and Goliath saga - the story of a young lawyer fresh from the public defender's office whose first client in private practice turns out to be the worst serial killer in our nation's history. This is a gripping true crime narrative that reenacts the gruesome killings and the famous trial that shocked a nation.

Amazing detail and insight
Revisado: 11-01-17
This has got to be one of the best if not the best true crime book I’ve ever read or listened to. The insight from the author is outstanding; given he was an attorney for Gacy, he had first hand knowledge of the mans duplicitous personality. During the part where Gacy confesses to everything I had to pull over off the highway, park in a gas station lot and just sit. I was that engaged and frankly, terrified. Use a credit on Audible or pay for this one outright if you don’t have a credit. It’s totally worth it. I never review books but felt compelled to do it for this one. You’ll be engaged from beginning to end. I’m going to listen again now that it’s been a few months.
Narration is spot on as well; very nicely done.
