Historia
Conventional wisdom suggests there is a sharp distinction between emotion and reason. Emotions are seen as inferior, disruptive, primitive, and even bestial forces. These 24 remarkable lectures suggest otherwise-that emotions have intelligence and provide personal strategies that are vitally important to our everyday lives of perceiving, evaluating, appraising, understanding, and acting in the world.

way too long for the content
Revisado: 11-24-24
This is the ramblings of a professor talking about different topics he is interested in. this could have been at least 3 hours long, if not 1 hour. some lectures say far too little, others (the last two) could be entire books themselves (and are by other authors and great courses). can't recommend, unless you are an alien and have no idea what emotions are.

Historia
You may be surprised to learn that microchips are the new oil—the scarce resource on which the modern world depends. Today, military, economic, and geopolitical power are built on a foundation of computer chips. Virtually everything—from missiles to microwaves—runs on chips, including cars, smartphones, the stock market, even the electric grid. Until recently, America designed and built the fastest chips and maintained its lead as the #1 superpower, but America’s edge is in danger of slipping, undermined by players in Taiwan, Korea, and Europe taking over manufacturing.

Summary: do whatever the woman wants
Revisado: 06-21-24
that's basically it it folks. I wish there was a women's guide to men, because it seems as if men are expected to continually sacrifice and be as selfless as possible and expect the woman to be self centered and offer nothing in return. I feel like I would be better off single after listening to this book- not because I want endless hookups but because I can befriend myself better than someone who truly does not care about my feelings and just wants some money and someone to only listen and never speak in return.

Historia
Every day of your life is spent surrounded by mysteries that involve what appear to be rather ordinary human behaviors. What makes you happy? Where did your personality come from? Why do you have trouble controlling certain behaviors? Why do you behave differently as an adult than you did as an adolescent?Since the start of recorded history, and probably even before, people have been interested in answering questions about why we behave the way we do.

Psych 101 course
Revisado: 03-30-24
this is basically a psych 101 course... not much to learn here unless you are new to the field entirely. Many of the lectures end with "so we really don't know why ____, but it probably has to do with evolution." I would recommend this guy's other course on personality, much more interesting in my opinion.

Great until the last third
Revisado: 11-11-23
Great until the last third, when the author starts to go on and on about the beat generation and cults (which have little to do with Alaska or conservation). I think he really admires that whole generation of poets and forgot what the book was about. First two thirds was great though!

Historia
On May 7, 1954, when the bullets stopped and the air stilled in Dien Bien Phu, there was no doubt that Vietnam could fight a mighty colonial power and win. After nearly a decade of struggle, a nation forged in the crucible of war had achieved a victory undreamed of by any other national liberation movement. The Road to Dien Bien Phu tells the story of how Ho Chi Minh turned a ragtag guerrilla army into a modern fighting force capable of bringing down the formidable French army.

Not great
Revisado: 08-09-22
I thought the subject of the Vietamese French conflict seemed interesting. However that is not what this book is about... the focus is mostly on Ho's communist state building. Furthermore, it is written poorly in my view. The author over uses the phrases "and he did" and "and they did" way too much. The narrator also places weird emphasis on words, which got very irritating. I was unconvinced by argument the author was trying to make. Finally, the author makes unnessacry moral judgements about certain figures rather than just presenting facts.

Historia
On to Petersburg follows the Union army's movement to the James River, the military response from the Confederates, and the initial assault on Petersburg, which Rhea suggests marked the true end of the Overland Campaign. Beginning his account in the immediate aftermath of Grant's three-day attack on Confederate troops at Cold Harbor, Rhea argues that the Union general's primary goal was not - as often supposed - to take Richmond, but rather to destroy Lee's army by closing off its retreat routes and disrupting its supply chain.

Historia
Written by two of the world's leading authorities on the subject, Imperial Germany and War, 1871-1918 examines the most essential components of the imperial German military system, with an emphasis on such foundational areas as theory, doctrine, institutional structures, training, and the officer corps. In the period between 1871 and 1918, rapid technological development demanded considerable adaptation and change in military doctrine and planning.

This is for third graders
Revisado: 01-09-22
I listened to half of it and couldn't take it anymore. Each lecture begins with a "myth" about the brain. However, each "myth" is so glaringly and obviously false the lectures quickly become a waste of time. She refutes each myth in the first five minutes and the rest of the time is spent repeating the same point over and over using case studies. Speaking of case studies- I found her tone of voice to be very excited when discussing patients with tragic and severe brain disabilities and trauma. It was very off-putting to picture these poor people going through these things while this doctor is giddy with delight...
The worst part however is her general speaking style. In my opinion, she speaks like she is talking with third graders. I felt some how patronized while listening.
Overall each lecture can be summed up in five minutes and I felt I learned nothing of value I did not already know before.
I will give it at least two stars though, because if you do not have a basic education, or if you are actual a third grade student, there are things to learn.

David M. Potter's Pulitzer Prize-winning The Impending Crisis is the definitive history of antebellum America. Potter's sweeping epic masterfully charts the chaotic forces that climaxed with the outbreak of the Civil War: westward expansion, the divisive issue of slavery, the Dred Scott decision, John Brown's uprising, the ascension of Abraham Lincoln, and the drama of Southern secession.
