Not my favorite, but maybe the best of the Horus Heresy.

First in the series I deem less than ‘perfect’

I was skeptical going into the flight of the Eisenstein because of the new author and narrator but was pleased to find it of equal quality.
The narration in Fulgrim is excellent.
This author would have benefited greatly from a thesaurus, the repetition became a little grating in a longer book.
I also think that there were probably limitations of what subject matter the author could address directly. But considering this story covers the two year long decent into excess and madness a bit more detail of the depravities may have been justified.
