I tried, I really tried, but let's all acknowledge that we know the mc's first AND last name by now, amd we are all very aware of what makes him super duper special and better than everyone else 😒

MC makes the same mistake over and over

I thoroughly enjoyed the books once I started skipping through the endless villain monologuing. The MC, after having been stabbed in the back multiple times, seems to lack the ability to learn from it. it seems the author is more than content to recycle the same scenario multiple times in exchange for any meaningful character development. The story picks up some great steam, only to stall due the MC's inexhaustible naivety that never really gets better. New legendary quest, great build up, only to be sabotaged due to the MC having a hard time deciding whether to act or listen to the villain monolgue while meeting no resistance to completing their plans. can we move on from this cycle please? maybe get more sophisticated rivalries?

Fantastic beginning to the heros journey.

Estes masterfully builds an unforgettable world while setting the stage for the battle to end all battles. Magic, Godliness and Fae, dragon riders, and the indomitable human spirit are all represented in this. I highly recommend if you're looking for a cast of characters that are neither pure nor evil, but precariously balancing between the two with realistic complexity.

I am going through a breakup.

I write this to hopefully reach others who may find themselves in a position to be resentful and full of hate. I started listening to this book when my now ended relationship was starting to hit turbulence. the chapters in this book outlined for me that I was certainly the architect of my own destruction as my world is now crumbling. As I have now finished this book, I realize that I must change and continue to improve regardless of my loss in this one battle. I will not wallow in my misfortune and will be listening 3 more times to solidify the lessons learned here. Thank you Dr. Peterson from the bottom of my heart.
