Very good, but wanted more.

Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed this book. I learned a lot about Houdini that I didn't know. But this was an abridged book and I felt there were some things left out or overly summarized. I'll check out the unabridged version from the library.

Touching End and New Beginnings
Revisado: 10-21-14
Would you listen to Blood in Snow again? Why?
Absolutely. Fleet Cooper did a terrific job. The characters had a variety of different "sounds" so they didn't all sound the same or variations of the same actor.
What did you like best about this story?
The humor ("The only thing revolting is your court jester"--loved that line.) Also how things unfolded in a different way than expected.
Which scene was your favorite?
The sword fight at the Stone of Death where "Lord Somebody beat the other person." LOL. Also, the great battle scene with the armies. It's one of the only battle scenes where I felt like I was there. It wasn't overwritten or bogged down by too many details.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The very last scene seemed so real for me. I could really feel for Edmond on so many levels. The heartbreak and joy... I really hope there's more after this.
Any additional comments?
I wish there were more goblins. I missed Kravel and Gurding's witty banter.

Historia
The murder of Abraham Lincoln set off the greatest manhunt in American history, the pursuit and capture of John Wilkes Booth. From April 14 to April 26, 1865, the assassin led Union cavalry and detectives on a wild 12-day chase through the streets of Washington, D.C., across the swamps of Maryland, and into the forests of Virginia, while the nation, still reeling from the just-ended Civil War, watched in horror and sadness.

Historia
Each year, the magicians of Imardin gather to purge the city streets of vagrants. They know that no ordinary low-life can oppose them. But their protective shield is not as impenetrable as they think. Somea, angry and outraged by the treatment of her family and friends, throws a stone at the shield, putting all her rage behind it. She is amazed when it sails unrestricted through the barrier and knocks a magician unconscious.

Good...
Revisado: 08-29-05
First of all, I want to point out that three stars means that this is a good, but not great book. I think many people will look at my rating and assume that I hated it, but I didn't. It started off a bit slow, but eventually picked up. Good characters and a nice ending. The narrator did a great job of bring the characters to life. I am not sure if I will read the rest of the trilogy, but I would recommend this book to anybody who wants a quick, easy read.

Historia
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.

I really enjoyed this book. The writing was good and the narrator was fantastic. Extremely interesting topic. The only fault that I could find is that it sometimes dragged on in brief spots, however, I think that I am being nit-picky.

Historia
When Hitler came to power in the 1930s, Germany had led the world in science, mathematics, and technology for nearly four decades. But while the fact that Hitler swiftly pressed Germany's scientific prowess into the service of a brutal, racist, xenophobic ideology is well known, few realize that German scientists had knowingly broken international agreements and basic codes of morality to fashion deadly weapons even before World War I.

Good
Revisado: 03-15-04
I enjoyed this book a great deal, but it left me wanting more. I suppose that this is a characteristic of a good book... but it left a lot of unanswered questions. It seemed to skim over a lot of important aspects of the war, such as the Nazi "war on cancer" and even their race to build an A-bomb. Still, I recommend this book if only for the final chapter about science and social responsibility.

Historia
In 1519 Magellan and his fleet of five ships set sail from Seville, Spain, to discover a water route to the fabled Spice Islands in Indonesia, where the most sought-after commodities (cloves, pepper, and nutmeg) flourished. Three years later, a handful of survivors returned with an abundance of spices from their intended destination, but with just one ship carrying 18 emaciated men. During their remarkable voyage around the world the crew endured starvation, disease, mutiny, and torture. Many men died, including Magellan, who was violently killed in a fierce battle.

I thought that this book was interesting, but didn't go into the kind of depth as to the "man behind the mission" that I wanted. The narrator had a great voice, which always makes listening to a book pleasant.
