Historia
Jane’s days at a Midwest insurance company are perfectly ordinary. She blends in well, unremarkably pretty in her floral-print dresses and extra efficient at her low-level job. She’s just the kind of woman middle manager Steven Hepsworth likes - meek, insecure, and willing to defer to a man. No one has any idea who Jane really is. Least of all Steven. But plain Jane is hiding something. And Steven’s bringing out the worst in her.

Oh My Goodness
Revisado: 03-31-19
I have not binge listened with the intensity of this book in a LONG LONG time. Jane is a self diagnosed sociopath who loses her best friend and “soul” Meg. Afterwards, this woman who believes she has no emotion or empathy takes it unto herself to seek justice for the horrors inflicted upon her dearest friend by the man Meg had believed loved her.
Jane is quick to declare that her self diagnosis makes her evil, bad, etc but ultimately as more and more information comes to light it is very clear that “bad” isn’t something people can diagnose because this “good man” is not at all good.

Historia
It's not easy being a rebel. So many new skills to assimilate. Never mind strategic planning, weapons expertise and the like - there's bicycle-stealing, oil-stain removal and boat steering to be mastered first. And quickly. It's the time of the Civil Uprisings, and two young women set out to make a difference. Their only problem? They don't know where they are. Or where they're going. Or what to do when they get there. Other than that....

Getting to know the staff
Revisado: 04-27-18
The fantastic part of reading the short stories in the series is having the opportunity to get to know some of the other characters in the St. Mary's universe. On this particular journey the pods remain unused but that does not prevent this from being a lively historical adventure.
To the rare tune of storytelling by other members of the staff we are brought back in time to experience history through the eyes of characters usually left to themselves.

One bad decision
Revisado: 01-19-18
I am an audiobook fanatic, but let's be realistic - a huge factor in listening to a book rather than reading it is the ability of the narrator to bring the words to life in a meaningful way.
Often having an author read is a good move. They understand the passion and intent behind a story to a much fuller extent than anyone else ever could. That being said in this particular case it was a horrible horrible decision. As powerful and moving as the words were I simply couldn't get past the monotone reading. I wanted to feel, but there was absolutely nothing human in the voice reading the tale. She was simply unable to bring the story to life in any better capacity than a robotic early '90s computer. I wish I had read this on paper instead.

Historia
People often say, "I feel like I've been run over by a truck." Katie actually was. On a sunny morning bike ride in Brooklyn, 24-year-old Katie McKenna was forever changed when she was run over by an 18-wheeler. Being crushed under a massive semi wasn't something Katie should have survived. After 10 hours of emergency surgery, she woke to find herself in a body and a life that would never be the same.

Beautiful
Revisado: 09-23-17
I don't have enough words for how I feel about this book, but I will try. I feared this would become an unrealistic "glorious journey through tragedy" as some memoirs do but I didn't find that to be the case. This felt like an honest self discover version of Katie's story and that she performed it herself made it all the better for me. While I'm sure there's no way to describe the horrors she endured to the extent she endured them I felt I was along for her journey. I was glad to see that no one was painted evil or saintly, as we are all just people with both good and bad moments. This is a story I will remember and advise others to take the time to enjoy.

Solid story with a refreshing concept
Revisado: 05-22-17
This was a wonderfully refreshing twist in the world of YA reading. I'm often a reader of the genre as a light read between novels but lately it's been a lot of similar style tales woven in slightly varying fashions. However, Caraval had me unsteady and eager to await the next phase of the adventure. It was a wonderful mix of the fantastical with a touch of mystery and intrigue.
The main character is someone I could cheer for without being unrealistically "perfect". Very well worth the read!
