Historia
On November 14, 1889, Nellie Bly, the crusading young female reporter for Joseph Pulitzer’s World newspaper, left New York City by steamship on a quest to break the record for the fastest trip around the world. Also departing from New York that day—and heading in the opposite direction by train—was a young journalist from The Cosmopolitan magazine, Elizabeth Bisland.

A fun read

Would you consider the audio edition of Eighty Days to be better than the print version?
I have no idea, what I would like to see available are more tales of intrepid, female Victorian
travelers.

Historia
Peking in 1937 is a heady mix of privilege and scandal, opulence and opium dens, rumors and superstition. The Japanese are encircling the city, and the discovery of Pamela Werner's body sends a shiver through already nervous Peking. Is it the work of a madman? One of the ruthless Japanese soldiers now surrounding the city? With the suspect list growing and clues sparse, two detectives - one British and one Chinese - race against the clock to solve the crime before the Japanese invade and Peking as they know it is gone forever.

What did you love best about Midnight in Peking?
A fascinating blend of history, murder and the dogged determination of one man to find his daughter's killers. Told against the backdrop of the fall of Peking to the Japanese and replete with British diplomats, white Russians, drug dealers and brothels.

Historia
All Cry Chaos is a masterful and gripping tale that literally reaches for the heavens. The action begins when mathematician James Fenster is assassinated on the eve of a long-scheduled speech at a World Trade Organization meeting. The hit is as elegant as it is bizarre. Fenster’s Amsterdam hotel room is incinerated, yet the rest of the building remains intact. The murder trail leads veteran Interpol agent Henri Poincaré on a high-stakes, world-crossing quest for answers.

not a book for the faint of heart.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I personally abandoned the book early in the story. Just too violent for my taste. I was looking for a John Le Carre type of story and clearly should have read critiques that might have alerted me as to its content.
Any additional comments?
Just too much violence for me.
