Historia
Anthony Fauci is arguably the most famous–and most revered–doctor in the world today. His role guiding America sanely and calmly through Covid (and through the torrents of Trump) earned him the trust of millions during one of the most terrifying periods in modern American history, but this was only the most recent of the global epidemics in which Dr. Fauci played a major role. His crucial role in researching HIV and bringing AIDS into sympathetic public view and his leadership in navigating the Ebola, SARS, West Nile, and anthrax crises, make him truly an American hero.

Wise Man
Revisado: 07-12-24
If only people would have listened to Dr. Fauci and other real experts instead of politicians and Facebook experts, we might have weathered the pandemic better than we did.
As he says, “Science is a self-correcting process.” As we learned more approaches and advice changed. That’s the way science works.
I paid attention to what he and the CDC advised, and have not as yet had Covid. I may get it yet. If I do, I will follow their advice for care, not Facebook “doctors”.
Thank you, Dr. Fauci, for all you’ve done for the country. I’m sorry you and your family have been subjected undeservedly to the craziness of our times.

An hour in and it just alternates between racial conflict and political agendas. Isles needs to think of some new plot topics. I get enough of that in the news. I can’t listen to 44 hours of it for “entertainment”. He seems to only want to make Mississippi look as bad as possible.

Needs make narrator
Revisado: 11-11-22
This might have been a decent cozy mystery. The Narrator is decent, BUT this book needed a MALE narrator. Having a male lead character is unusual. Still, I might would have read the rest of the series, but I only do audible.

Bailey writes well, but needs to start a new series. Every book is basically a rehash of the same basic plot, theme, and social agenda. I find myself speeding up the narration just to get to the end and see “who dunnit”.

Historia
Bennie Rosato, Mary DiNunzio, Judy Carrier, and Anne Murphy are back with all cylinders firing in Accused. Mary Dinuzio has just been promoted to partner and is about to take on her most unusual case yet, brought to the firm by a thirteen-year-old genius with a penchant for beekeeping. Allegra Gardner's sister Fiona was murdered six years ago, and it seemed like an open-and-shut case: the accused, Lonnie Stall, was seen fleeing the scene; his blood was on Fiona and her blood was on him; most damningly, Lonnie Stall pleaded guilty.

Revisado: 07-11-20
I enjoy the series overall, but at times the personalities of the lawyers and their interactions are annoying. The narrator is good as long as she's doing the main character, but when she narrates Mary's family, I want to throw my phone against the wall. These characters should be amusing and fun, but she makes them obnoxious. But somehow I always get drawn into the story and finish the books quickly in spite of those annoyances.

Cozy Mystery
Revisado: 06-22-20
*Reviewing after receiving a promotional audiobook.
Brigid Barnes, a book editor moves back to hometown of Cottonwood Springs, Colorado. Her good friend is murdered.
I was thrown a little by the murder happening first and then the possible suspects being introduced. Then back in time to tell the events leading up to the murder.
It was a typical cozy mystery. Light reading (listening) for when you're not in the mood for something deeper. I enjoyed it enough to try the next one.
The narrator did a good job with the voice of Brigid, but some of the other character voices made me want to cringe.

So-So
Revisado: 10-31-17
Larsson's series is one of my all time favorites. I've listened to them multiple times.
My son has a philosophy that when a family member dies, that "special food" dies with them. I think the same is probably true for authors.
Lagercrantz does an okay job of continuing the series, but it just lacks something that Larsson came to naturally. One of those ethereal things that it's hard to put in words.
His first sequel was better than this one. The story just seemed to jump around. I had trouble staying interested.
Having the same narrator that's done all in the series helps the book tremendously.
While not Larsson-quality, I would still read another one by Lagercrantz.

Disappointing
Revisado: 05-08-16
I hate it when an author using his popularity to push social agenda. Just write a story. We get enough social agenda in the news and on social media.
And basing your plot on Southern 1960's era racism is a worn out theme. Come up with something new. And while you trash the South, remember that their money spends just as well as any other.
I found this book just plain tiring to listen to. So many unbelievable plot twists. I would make a better FBI agent than the ones in the book. Only pure stubborness saw me to the end of this one.
I own quite a few Baldacci books, but this is my last one. Very disappointing.
Several people have trashed the narration. I have no problem with the narrators. Once in awhile it would seem a little disjointed, but overall, I think they did a great job.

Will Robie escaped his small Gulf Coast hometown of Cantrell, Mississippi, after high school, severing all personal ties, and never looked back. Not once. Not until the unimaginable occurs. Unlike the missions Robie undertook in the service of his country, where his target was clearly defined, digging into his father's case only reveals more questions. Robie is drawn into the hidden underside of Cantrell, where he must face the unexpected and possibly deadly consequences of the long-ago choices made by father and son.

Stereotypical Nonsense
Revisado: 12-24-15
Baldacci was once one of my favorite authors. This book was beneath him. I hate it when authors set a book in modern Mississippi and make it sound like the Mississippi of the 1950's...and worse. I have known folks transferred to Mississippi who were terrified to move here, because of nonsense like this. And this story smacked a lot of Greg Iles' Penn Cage series....another favorite author I have sworn off of. People read stuff like this from renowned authors and think this sort of sickening stuff goes on routinely. I have lived in several states and two other countries, and I know of nowhere better than Mississippi to live.
At least one time I heard y'all used to refer to a single person. In all my many years, I have never heard y'all used that way except in movies and books. Y'all is a contraction for "you all" and is always used to refer to more than one....kind of like "you guys" is used elsewhere.
Professional narrators should do just a little research to ascertain the correct pronunciation of local cities, etc. I cringed every time they said "Bi-lock-si". Biloxi is pronounced Buh-lux-i. Most people wouldn't know the difference, of course, just one of my pet peeves in audiobooks.Fake Southern accents are annoying also. The male narrator was much better than the female.
I don't really have any problem with the content other than the trashing Mississippi aspect. Sure, it's unrealistic, but most thrillers are.
