Historia
Elbridge A. Colby was the lead architect of the 2018 National Defense Strategy, the most significant revision of US defense strategy in a generation. Here he lays out how America's defense must change to address China's growing power and ambition. Based firmly in the realist tradition but deeply engaged in current policy, this book offers a clear framework for what America's goals in confronting China must be, how its military strategy must change, and how it must prioritize these goals over its lesser interests.

A Rational Liberalist Approach in a Realists World
Revisado: 06-23-23
Elbridge Colby lays out a very rational approach to the real threat China conveys as a prospective hegemon in the Pacific. The idea-first, conclusion-last style of writing and framework of The Strategy of Denial convince the reader (listener) of the end he has in mind before he gets there, leading one to believe it was their idea all along. I’m a fan of the more simplistic “tell them what you’re going to tell them” approach of the military writing style, but Colby is quite effective. He addresses well the perils of focusing solely on China as an aspiring hegemon as well, leaving no question where he stands on Russia, Iran, and violent extremists. If you are a student of military history, strategy, and future warfare, this is a great extension to understanding the military role in the instruments of national power.

Simply Powerful
Revisado: 06-12-23
Maxwell has a unique and effective way of boiling down a message to its most essential parts, and does it so well here (in fact, that’s also part of one of the 16 Laws). He also weaves relatable and memorable stories into each lesson, which stick powerfully in the readers mind. If you think you’re a poor communicator, I highly recommend reading this book. If you think you’re a great communicator, I highly recommend you read this book as well, because you’ll probably learn something valuable from this master of communication, John Maxwell.

Historia
AI will be the defining development of the 21st century. Within two decades, aspects of daily human life will be unrecognizable. AI will generate unprecedented wealth, revolutionize medicine and education through human-machine symbiosis, and create brand-new forms of communication and entertainment. In liberating us from routine work, however, AI will also challenge the organizing principles of our economic and social order.

Merely Aspirational
Revisado: 05-29-23
Anyone interested in the possible future of AI should read this. It’s quite creative and obviously rooted in the current state and near possibilities of existing technology. However, when it comes to the human nature explored in this book, and what the future of humanity looks like with AI by her side, the story falls to the purely aspirational path, if not altogether naive. Unfortunately, the forces of good and evil will always persist in humanity. I’m this vein, I may agree with Elon Musk - AI will likely spell the end of humanity before it brings about the plenitude offered by the authors in AI 2041.

“All Under Heaven”…
Revisado: 09-15-21
“All Under Heaven” is an Admirable, Aspirational, and Terrifying Goal for the CCP. Mr. Schuman lays out a basis for the various strategies being employed by the Chinese government - economic strangulation by One Belt, One Road, sharp power subversion of “Confucius Institutions”, military posturing and land grabbing in the South China Sea - all harken to hyperbole of dynastic greatness in China’s imperial past. The scary part is, as Schuman intimates in the closing chapter, is the attempt to unify “all under heaven” is not just a physical, geographic, or territorial aim of the CCP, but to lord over a vast kingdom economically and culturally. This may be the most comprehensive answer to the recent “great question” of the West: “What does China want?”
