Historia
For 2,500 years, the Celts have continued to fascinate those who have come into contact with them, yet their origins have remained a mystery and even today are the subject of heated debate among historians and archaeologists. Barry Cunliffe's classic study of the ancient Celtic world was first published in 1997. Since then, huge advances have taken place in our knowledge: new finds, new ways of using DNA records to understand Celtic origins, new ideas about the proto-urban nature of early chieftains' strongholds. All these developments are part of this fully updated edition.

Treasure Trove of Info About the Celts
Revisado: 01-24-23
If you have a good general idea about the Celts or Celtic peoples such as the Irish, this book will amaze you with the depth and breadth of the information on the subject The author is a retired scholar with a lifetime of study in the area. If you don't know much about the subject and want to acquire a general overview, you might be a little overwhelmed. I rated it highly because I have been long interested in the subject and I was mightily impressed by the depth and detail of the book . I did skim some sections and was tempted to give up the read for something on the subject with more entertainment value, but I am glad that I saw it through. I have purchased a softcover copy of the book for future reference.

Historia
"A Simple Soul" is the perfect Gustave Flaubert short story: a tale told in spare, straightforward language full of richly observed details. The "soul" is Felicite, the exemplary servant of the austere Madame Aubin. Orphaned and illiterate, Felicite devotes her life to her mistress and Madame's two children. Her kindheartedness extends to her nephew and a local beggar, but it is seldom reciprocated.

Very Touching

I was surprised at how I was moved by this story. Not maudlin but alive with sentiment.

A Life Well Led
Revisado: 07-09-21
As I worked my way into this autobiography, it seemed pretty dull- a collection of anecdotes. But surprise, as I finished the short listen, I felt like a picture had emerged of a man with a commendable attitude toward his work and his life. He wrote his autobiography as he worked , by giving multiple examples of how he approached life and work - using induction rather than deduction to reach his conclusions. So I finished the book with a big thumbs up and thinking that I would like to listen to it again some day.

Historia
A legendary folk singer and activist, Woody Guthrie and his songs changed the world. Born in an Oklahoma oil-boom town, Guthrie traveled America by boxcar, thumb, and foot. Along the journey, he composed and sang songs that have become a national heritage. His songs, however, are but part of his legacy. This remarkable autobiography brings to life both his vibrant personality and a vision of America we cannot afford to let die. Funny, cynical, and earthy, Bound for Glory is the stirring account of Guthrie's life and a superb portrait of America's Depression years.

A wonderful reflection on his life and the world as he saw it; a philosophical rumination and a poem. A wonderful delivery by Woody's son Arlo- catching his pop's cadence, rhythms and twang.

Historia
Legendary folk singer and activist Woody Guthrie left us with this funny, cynical, earthy and tragic account of his life in an Oklahoma oil-boom town, of the Depression that followed, and of his subsequent travels in, on, and under trains, in stolen cars and on his feet, rounding an America going rotten from the top downwards. During the journey of discovery that was his life, Guthrie composed and sang words and music that have become a national heritage. His songs are merely part of his legacy. Woody Guthrie left us this remarkable autobiography.

Glen Runciter runs a lucrative business - deploying his teams of anti-psychics to corporate clients who want privacy and security from psychic spies. But when he and his top team are ambushed by a rival, he is gravely injured and placed in "half-life," a dreamlike state of suspended animation. Soon, though, the surviving members of the team begin experiencing some strange phenomena, such as Runciter's face appearing on coins and the world seeming to move backward in time.
