Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Great First in the Series
Revisado: 03-08-24
I really enjoyed Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. From the first pages to the last “Oh Wow” page, I couldn’t wait for “Iron Flame,” The narrator was really good. One caveat, do not read the Chapter 9 excerpt as I believe it totally ruins the book by giving away the surprise last page. I don’t understand this blunder by the author.

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

Unexpectedly Unique
Revisado: 02-06-16
The story was unexpectedly unique. It kept me interested and listening in just two installments. I love George Guidall as a narrator in everything I've listened to so far. He brings all the characters to life (hehe). If I had one complaint it would be his voice for Chava. This could have been intentional though. Without giving anything away in the story, he portrayed her voice as somewhat monotone. Anyway, I would definitely consider reading another book by Helene Wecker if she continues producing such unique stories. And, I will definitely continue seeking out narrations by George Guidall.

Historia
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

Still the Best
Revisado: 09-03-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. Everyone should read/listen to Stephen King's "The Stand," especially apocalyptic fiction fans, although King describes it as a religious, good vs. evil novel.
What did you like best about this story?
Descriptive novels are the best--it makes you feel like you are one of the characters.
Have you listened to any of Grover Gardner’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but he did an excellent performance.
If you could rename The Stand, what would you call it?
I wouldn't rename it knowing the content and King's description of the theme.
Any additional comments?
I've always had a problem with King's endings, except for "11-22-63,"

Not Hollywood's Frankenstein
Revisado: 06-25-12
Would you listen to Frankenstein again? Why?
Maybe. I very rarely repeat a book.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Frankenstein?
Confrontation between The Monster & Frankenstein.
What about Jim Donaldson’s performance did you like?
He was enthusiastic.
If you could rename Frankenstein, what would you call it?
I wouldn't rename this classic. The name Frankenstein has become synonymous with The Monster.
Any additional comments?
Well worth your time to read all of the classics.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Exceptional Stephen King!
Revisado: 04-12-12
What made the experience of listening to 11-22-63 the most enjoyable?
The narrator was exceptionally talentedt! The story was one of Stephen King's all-time best, in my opinion.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Jake Epping, the protagonist. He is one of those great multi-dimensional characters that is so hard to portray in any story.
What about Craig Wasson’s performance did you like?
Voice characterizations were superb. I was caught up in the narration and story from the get-go and was enthralled until the very end.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely, but I didn't want it to end! That's how you tell a good story from a great one.
Any additional comments?
After many years of swearing off Stephen King (I'm not always happy with his story endings), I couldn't resist the many rave reviews about the novel and its ending. Consequently, I found out in the afterward that Joe Hill, Stephen King's son and author in his own right, helped with the ending.
