Historia
Revolutions in thought (as opposed to those in politics or science) are in many ways the most far-reaching of all. They affect how we grant legitimacy to authority, define what is possible, create standards of right and wrong, and even view the potential of human life. Between 1600 and 1800, such a revolution of the intellect seized Europe, shaking the minds of the continent as few things before or since. What we now know as the Enlightenment challenged previously accepted ways of understanding reality, bringing about modern science, representative democracy, and a wave of wars, sparking what Professor Kors calls "perhaps the most profound transformation of European, if not human, life." In this series of 24 insightful lectures, you'll explore the astonishing conceptual and cultural revolution of the Enlightenment. You'll witness in its tumultuous history the birth of modern thought in the dilemmas, debates, and extraordinary works of the 17th- and 18th-century mind, as wielded by the likes of thinkers like Bacon, Descartes, Hobbes, Pascal, Newton, Locke, Hume, Voltaire, Diderot, and Rousseau. And you'll understand why educated Europeans came to believe that they had a new understanding-of thought and the human mind, of method, of nature, and of the uses of knowledge-with which they could come to know the world correctly for the first time in human history, and with which they could rewrite the possibilities of human life.

Good material, annoying voice

Interesting in parts
Revisado: 06-23-16
Enjoyed overall. I felt the scope was
A bit more shallow than I would have liked. I wanted more about Locke's theory of government. Also, I wouldn't mind some editorial information, rather than straight reporting. Not my favorite set of lectures, but not bad.

Historia
Shakespeare's works are among the greatest of humanity's cultural expressions and, as such, demand to be experienced and understood. But, simply put, Shakespeare is difficult. His language and culture - those of Elizabethan England - are greatly different from our own, and his poetry, thick with metaphorical imagery and double meanings, can be hard to penetrate.

Has some good points with helpful tools. Excellent for a junior high or high school student studying the Bard.

Every day there are moments when you must persuade, inform, and motivate others effectively. Each of those moments requires you, in some way, to play a role, to heighten the impact of your words, and to manage your emotions and nerves. Every interaction is a performance, whether you're speaking up in a meeting, pitching a client, or walking into a job interview.

yes, and....
Revisado: 03-09-16
I like Michael Port and find him likable and inspiring. The content in this book is basic. Good for those new to speaking and performing. There are some good ideas contained, so it was with the read. I really liked his idea for saying "Yes, and..." to keep and improv going.

Life changing

I didn't have a problem (I thought). I may have had a hangover a couple times a week. Sometimes (3 or 4 times a week), I shared a nice bottle of wine. I never planned to wit. But I have. Easily. Since then, I've been the most joyous and happy since my youth. Thank you, Allen Carr.

Scientific and insightful. I was hopping for a bit more on the development side of things so I'm giving it 3 stars. Professor Medina is entertaining and makes complex ideas accessible. The listen was worth my time.

Practical

Enjoyed the narration a great deal. Listening to numbers and figures were frustrating, so I bought the print copy. However, I found this audio book so helpful and practical, I'm listening again and implementing into my business piece by piece.
