For me PARA and CODE have been invaluable. It has helped me put some structure around the chaos of day-to-day life while simultaneously teaching me that not EVERYTHING is critical and that I need to be firmer in my editing process around tasks, notes, projects, and my personal interests.

It’s helped me create more time which is a great compliment.

My one tiny criticism of the book is that it’s probably an hour too long. Some of the stories could have been edited out because they go on a bit too long and aren’t especially useful in reinforcing the message the book is trying to convey… but that’s a minor gripe.

This is a book you will want to pick up (or listen to) more than once to get maximum value from it.

The first 1/3 of the book is interesting but the back half of the book is trite and formulaic. You can actually tell that the author seemed to have a good idea for a book and then when he expressed the idea, padded it out with fluff. He’s a prolific and professional writer, which is a double edged sword because in situations like this - the back 2/3 feels like something you’d find on Inc, BI or one of those listicle sites that are churned out by professional and prolific writers.

I hated the narration. Absolutely could not stand it. I have never given a poor rating to a narrator before but this just sounds like someone reading to play school children with lots of false emotion and over the top expressiveness. It actually detracts from the content.

I hate leaving negative reviews but this one had to be done. It’s an average book with narration that is so saccharine it comes off as amateurish.

This is great storytelling - it takes a weird situation with hyperreal people and humanizes it. You find yourself caring about these people and sympathizing.

Excellent stuff.

Not often do you read a book where you find yourself, standing on a street corner at 6pm on a Friday afternoon thinking, "How can I focus on achieving a higher state or personal excellence?" But this book does that to you, in fact, that's what I'm doing right now.

If you're on the fence about reading or listening to this book, you should climb down, buy it and just get on with it because that's what Grit is.
