Historia
Jack Taggart, an undercover Mountie, lives in a world where the good guys and the bad guys change places in a heartbeat. Taggart is very good at what he does. Too good to be playing by the rules. The brass decide to assign a new partner to spy on him.Taggart's new partner discovers a society dependent upon unwritten rules. To break these rules is to lose respect. To lose respect is to lose one's life. Loose Ends is terrifying. It is a tale of violence, corruption, and retribution, but it is also a story of honour and respect.

Not Gritty and Realistic, BUT Disgusting
Revisado: 02-26-22
Got as far as Chapter 12, Story opens with two young children murdered with multiple shot gun blasts! Story concerns drug dealers who are also into white slavery and child porn. Author goes into very explicit ordeal of a 10 year old girl being abused and forced to undergo beastility. This was related in an overly long and detailed manner! I fail to understand why the author would go into such graphic details describing the murders and child abuse! Will not read any more novels by this author. I have never written a completely negative review before, I even found the voice of the reader to be unsatisfying, his attempts to use different voices for different characters was a disaster. Read this at your own peril, a waste of time! PS - 1 star rating was too high, more deserving of NO STARS!

Historia
When a local quarry yields a garroted body with bad dental work and toes tattooed in Cyrillic, Joe Gunther figures it's a Russian Mafia killing, rare as that might be in Vermont. But it's so very...tidy. So very...professional. Then the CIA calls, inviting Gunther down to Washington for some friendly "assistance" with his case. Suddenly he's caught up in a shadowy game of cross and double-cross.

Complex and action packed
Revisado: 08-10-21
My one criticism of Mayers Higher novels is that sometimes they seem like a Vermont travelogue. But, I get it, he loves his State. that being said, the story and plot twists are some of the most complex of any of his novels. And, when the action starts it is lengthy and proceeds at supersonic speed. Maybe the most enjoyable book of the series, and at this time I have read over 20 of the Joe Gunther novels! I highly recommend The Disposable Man, definitely NOT a disposable novel in the series!

Historia
Joe Gunther and his team - the Vermont Bureau of Investigation (VBI) - are usually called in on major cases by local Vermont enforcement whenever they need expertise and backup. But after the state is devastated by Hurricane Irene, the police from one end of the state are taxed to their limits, leaving Joe Gunther involved in an odd and seemingly unrelated series of cases. In the wake of the hurricane, a seventeen-year-old gravesite is exposed, revealing a coffin that had been filled with rocks instead of the expected remains.

No secret, best of the series

My favorite so far! As usual narrator was excellent! Plot was fast moving, with many mysteries, twists, and turns. Love the continuing development of the major played, Joe, Willie, and Sam.

Trueman Rock is a daring young cowboy and rider. Six years ago he had to leave the cowtown of Wagontongue because of a history of gunfights and run-ins with bad hombres. Since then, he's become a man who only uses his gun when he needs to, on rustlers and crooks. Now, he's returning to his hometown. But things have changed. The town and its people aren't what they used to be. He expects to find some of his enemies there to welcome him, but instead finds they're all dead. In their place is the Preston family.

Pass on Sunset Pass
Revisado: 05-21-21
A big disappointment, the least favorite of any Zane Grey books I have read. It was more like a romance novel than a western! The narrator made it difficult to even finish the book. He spoke in a monotone staccato, with little rythum nor inflection. would not recommend the audiobook to anyone!
