I tried to start this one a few times and it just didn't stick at first. I ended up reading ACOTAR and then came back to this and oh my gosh I like this so much better! The characters feel real, and I find I didn't roll my eyes hardly at all (which is not normal for me with Fantasy Romance books). The editing is so much better than a lot of the books out there and it subtly weaves fairytales in, rather than clocking you over the head with them and feeling cringe. This is just a well written, poetic, well built, and well plotted book. I hope this author continues to publish because I will be picking up whatever she comes up with next. For now, I'm content with starting the next book in the series!

I love Tom Felton and the Harry Potter franchise. But this was a lovely human look at a person who grew up in the film industry. I laughed very hard at some points. It kinda ended a little too fast in my opinion, like I wanted more stories and celebration around the end chapter, but other than that Tom is a person I'd love to meet. A truly good soul.

The narrator is phenomenal. I don't think the book would have been as magical without her! Fun read.

This is a must listen to for horror fans. I feel as though I've stumbled upon gold with this series. It will fascinate you, make you laugh, and quite possibly make you cry. It made me do all those things at least and I can't recommend it enough.

ok so I read some bad reviews for this book and was not going to get it. What ended up making me buy it was some Karen's scathing review of the book that called it "gay porn" and likened watching the lesbian romance in the book to watching dogs. Anything that has the power to make some homophobic jerk that angry was getting my money, regardless of the other reviews that called this predictable. I'm so glad I did because those other reviewers were clearly not paying attention.

Is this book predictable? Maybe a little, but the point of the book was never to be thrilling and full of twists and turns.

This book is a mirror to the plight of women in our society, particularly women of color and minority members of the LGBTQ+ community. This book is meant to show you that we live in this dystopia right now. It's not some long-ago nightmare, it's happening right now. Because of this book, I will not be sharing fairytales (particularly princess stories) with my kids until we can talk about the implications there. The light this shines on what we as a community are allowing to happen is to young women, minorities, and members of the LGBTQ+ community are unforgiving, harsh, and extremely necessary, PARTICULARLY for white women. If you're ready to do some soul searching and be faced with your own hand in maintaining this system we live in so you can grow and do better, read this. If you came here looking for another twilight fix or just another dystopian YA book with lots of action but no real substance, this ain't it.

Great American Classic. The audiobook was alright too. Slightly monotone for my taste but I would rather that then someone be too animated.

So I know this is a classic, and I can tell why. There are parts of this book that are so beautifully written I rewind just to listen to them again. King's depiction of fall is something I will never forget for the rest of my life. It will honestly sit in my bones and rattle every time I see the leaves change. This is the type of story that you can't give anything less than 5 stars. It is golden and makes vampires frightening again. It is famous for a reason and you won't be anything short of enthralled with it...

BUT

The first 1/3-1/2 of this book was a workout for me in persistence. There is a part of me that wonders if those with better taste in books, who are more well-read and crave more "adult" writing fair better than I did with the first part of this thing. I legit did not give an f#@! about any of the characters in the beginning (shocking for a King book). I really could not stand Ben and Susan's relationship. I liked them both fine as characters and identified a lot with Susan. But for some reason, I cringed every time there was a scene between them. It got to the point where I put this book down last Halloween only to watch the movie and then pick it up again this Halloween. On that note:

DON'T WATCH THE MOVIE BEFORE READING THIS! The movie is amazing. It stands its own ground with such an awesome book as a reference and is well worth a watch AFTER. Much of this book rides on a wave of suspense and dread that forces you to hold on for dear life and dread nightfall. It might be a no-brainer but honestly, this book loses some luster dust if you know how it ends. Not a lot! But enough to make you regret spoiling such a good ride even a little.

The narrator is wonderful. I have been listening to audiobooks since they were on cassette tapes and I am picky as hell with narrators. This guy is good, clearly polished, and professional. His tone is flat enough to not be distracting, with character voices vibrant enough to bring the whole thing to life.

So if you are looking for a King book to start with , this is a pretty good one. My favorite King book is still The Stand, but thats a much bigger time commitment than this.

This book was easy to breeze though. I remembered it vaguely as a child, but it means even more as an adult. Such a beautiful classic.

Ok so I kept wanting to roll my eyes at this book and call it "predictable". It's just a "teen" book, blah blah blah. But I started it yesterday afternoon and have just finished it tonight. I couldn't stop!

Does she have her rocky moments? Yes. Lots of cheesy moments here and there. But just when I think "woof she could have done that better", it flips on itself and I feel stupid for doubting her.

I do, however, think this should have been narrated by someone else. The phrasing was a little choppy in places and the inflections were weird sometimes. Also, her character voices sounded too much alike, so I couldn't tell who was talking. Even more annoying was I couldn't separate Sams thoughts from things she actually said sometimes. But I know this is her first book and her first narration, so I will say it's a great start.
