Being almost a hundred years old, it reads as if written yesterday. Truly a stroke of genius, well, two geniuses. The narration is also excellent.

Masterpiece for all ages

The book is a true masterpiece and amazingly never out of date. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about the narration. The narrator captured the character of Vorobianinov superbly however it can’t be said about the rest of the book. Sometimes the voice sounds boring and almost monotonous when the text itself is hilariously funny.

Unfortunately, the narration is quite monotonous without the feel of the character and his amazing adventures. It takes away from this, otherwise great, book.

We all know what Pushkin is. He doesn’t need to be reviewed - it has been done long time ago by generations of people. God himself wrote poems thru him. But the narration deserves to be reviewed - it’s fantastic! Great job!

Unsurpassable!

I am convinced that no one ever wrote anything better, not before or after. The perception of characters, the range of topics, the depth of observations, the literary mastery - all simply unsurpassable. The narration is also exceptional! This audiobook is a delight. Thank you Audible!

Difficult for a non-Russian listener

The book is almost too thorough, overloaded with names which are difficult even for a native speaker. It is almost a treaty or a dissertation on Rasputin, with a clear intent to be very objective but maybe just a little too overburden and unnecessary for a book. Overall it is a solid piece of work which gives you an idea how crazy the top echelon of power had become which was ready to collapse at the slightest push from anywhere. Yet another example how a great civilization committed suicide.
