Historia
Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

Enjoyable listen
Revisado: 08-05-24
This was a good light disaster novel.
I like the story premise and flow. I actually liked and even admired the main characters. I enjoyed the Hawaiian setting and use of language.
My disappointment was the characters getting continually sidetracked by really mundane tasks despite their knowing of imminent disaster. Meeting someone on the beach to go surfing? Really?

Historia
Few people today can claim a living memory of Florida's frontier Everglades. Glen Simmons, who has hunted alligators, camped on hammock-covered islands, and poled his skiff through the mangrove swamps of the glades since the 1920s, is one who can. Together with Laura Ogden, he tells the story of backcountry life in the southern Everglades from his youth until the establishment of the Everglades National Park in 1947.

This was old Florida and the narrator was perfect. It is what it is, an old timey narration with some humor and loads of character and characters. Nothing exciting but man interesting window into a lost world.

Choice of narrator lowere my score
Revisado: 03-02-24
I wonder why a female voice was chosen to narrate this book instead of a male one since the primary character is a man. The narrator’s male voices sounded stiff and Zechariah always sounded wimpy.

This was a surprise for me. A wonderful fusion of love story, some history and romance narrated with a warm Italian accent. Her English voice sometimes sounds wooden but nothing is perfect I guess.

Revisado: 12-20-22
Yes, it does wander a bit on the time line but listening to this book is the author sharing select parts of her young life. Her career spanned two very different eras in airline history but began in the older time when being a stewardess had a more glamorous reputation.

The story’s premise was interesting and the narrator was very good but - the progressive opinions of the main characters was kind of laughable and the bad guys were all cut from the same cloth.
It wasn’t a bad listening experience, just not great.

"Unvarnished. Funny. Leaving no stone unturned"...So say the publishers about this audiobook I've written. What I say is that this is the story of my life, told as clear as a Texas sky and in the same rhythm that I lived it. It's a story of restlessness and the purity of the moment and living right. Of my childhood in Abbott, Texas, to the Pacific Northwest, from Nashville to Hawaii, and all the way back again. Of selling vacuum cleaners and encyclopedias while hosting radio shows and writing song after song, hoping to strike gold.
