Historia
On October 14, 1943, 600 Jews imprisoned in Sobibor, a secret Nazi death camp in eastern Poland, revolted. They killed a dozen SS officers and guards, trampled the barbed wire fences, and raced across an open field filled with anti-tank mines. Against all odds, more than three hundred made it safely into the woods. Fifty of those men and women managed to survive the rest of the war. In this edition of Escape from Sobibor, fully updated in 2012, Richard Rashke tells their stories

Best writing of WW2 atrocities I’ve read
Revisado: 03-07-25
Instead of sensationalizing this story like some, the writer gives it straight and is respectful about the struggles and trauma survived and still experienced today. Does diligent research and presents facts and opinions as they are given, while allowing the subjects being interviewed the respect they deserve. Such a good read!!

Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Best book I’ve listened to in a very long time!!
Revisado: 03-22-24
I’ve heard people talk about this book for years and have always intended to “get to it”. I wish I had earlier! I love every moment of it! So many good moments like listening to Will Wheaton reference himself in the text, and so many more moments that mirror a nerd’s fantasies and dreams. Such a good book!! Officially added to my “listen to repeatedly” list!!

Historia
Hampton Sides' superb account of this epic clash in the Korean War relies on years of archival research, unpublished letters, declassified documents, and interviews with scores of marines and Koreans who survived the siege. While expertly detailing the follies of the American leaders, On Desperate Ground is an immediate, grunt's-eye view of history, enthralling in its narrative pace and powerful in its portrayal of what ordinary men are capable of in the most extreme circumstances.

Historia
In spring 1945, as the Russians moved on Berlin and it became clear the Nazi cause was lost, Adolf Hitler assured his most trusted henchmen that even if he were to die, "the seed of National Socialism will grow again one day [in]…a radiant rebirth." Several times after the war, the distinguished author Peter Wyden, himself a victim of the Nazis, returned to Germany to discover, to his dismay, that Hitler's prediction was all too true. In this unsettling audiobook, Wyden documents the reality that the "Hitler virus" is still very much alive.

Historia
Wendy Lower's stunning account of the role of German women on the Eastern Front - not only as plunderers and direct witnesses, but as actual killers - powerfully revises history. Many young nurses, teachers, secretaries, and wives saw the emerging Nazi empire as a kind of "Wild East" of opportunity, yet they could not have imagined what they would do there. Hitler's Furies will challenge our deepest beliefs using evidence hidden for seventy years: Women can be just as brutal as men.

Good read, hard to start
Revisado: 09-16-23
It gets graphic, just a warning. Good story, well told about a part of history most overlook or shy away from. I had this on my read list for forever. So glad I got to it now!! A bit difficult to start as it starts slowly, but a good read and very informative with nothing but facts. No glorification of an horrendous act, just facts about what happened. Well written

Historia
In the early years of the Second World War, the elite force of German submariners known as the Ubootwaffe came perilously close to perfecting underwater battle tactics and successfully cutting Britain's transatlantic lifeline. To the Allies, these enemy sailors were embarking on a mission of unequivocal evil. Each member of the Ubootwaffe understood that he must take pride in being part of a unique brotherhood. He had to do so because he was setting out on a journey that would test his mental and physical endurance to the very limits, and which he had little chance of surviving.

Historia
Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

Gross predatory writing
Revisado: 07-03-23
This book sells itself as a documentary of serial abuse and murder. It is a gross fantasy book told by someone who is captivated not by the psychology of a killer, but by the predation of people and minors. This book is not a documentation of what happened, but what the author thinks and fantasizes about. No science is cited in the descriptions of what happens, instead it is a disgusting fantasy novel wherein the author lives vicariously thru the eyes of predators who prey on vulnerable individuals. I did not finish this book and STRONGLY recommend it not being read by anyone who wants anything of truth, but a gross tale of the fantasy of what it would be like to commit these heinous acts. The author comes off as a predator and should, himself, be investigated to make sure he is not also committing such acts.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. Well written, accurate, well narrated
Revisado: 05-28-23
The narrator is great at doing different character voices, the story feels eerily accurate to what could easily happen, and the filler and dialogue are well written. I love this series while hating how accurate it feels to the world right now.
