..... but we live in a world where people have no patience with one another, where people are devoid of empathy, where people dump household garbage ,broken plastic toys , broken toxic chemical filled utensils at the roots of drought stressed trees. This is a world where people feel helpless to effect good, so establish an identity in, and survive by destructive works instead of overcoming lethargy, permitting otherness and unrelatedness. in this world the individual fells like a grain of sand among equally legless armess will-devoid grains, moved by winds, more inevitable forces, so can the ending pages of this text with its tame suggestions of eating less or no meat,be enough to fuel a generation's commitment to saving the environment, preserving family values and the many wonderful benefits of culture, like books, and concepts of personal agency's

Historia
As Indigenous scientist and author of Braiding Sweetgrass Robin Wall Kimmerer harvests serviceberries alongside the birds, she considers the ethic of reciprocity that lies at the heart of the gift economy. How, she asks, can we learn from Indigenous wisdom and the plant world to reimagine what we value most? Our economy is rooted in scarcity, competition, and the hoarding of resources, and we have surrendered our values to a system that actively harms what we love. Meanwhile, the serviceberry’s relationship with the natural world is an embodiment of reciprocity.

Heartbroken to have become so lost from these impulses. Hopeful, inspiring, lesson bearing, overwhelmingly small candle flame in the black swamp we have made of our shared world

Historia
It’s 2006. After a string of rejections from men who tell her they could never, ever, ever see her “that way,” awkward third-grade teacher Micaela Blei signs up for a mysterious course called “The Divine Feminine,” and feels like she might have found the key to the perfect life. Turns out if you’re an A student, you can get an A in anything–including men. Pretty soon she’s learning to "conjure" her desires with vision boards, flirtations, and even a daring jumbotron viewing party for her, ahem ... "divine center."

I don't think I can finish this
Revisado: 08-29-24
Narrators voice isn't strong enough to project the story into 3 dimensions. The story , alarming as it truly is that this village apparently puts girl babies to death at birth, the lead character submits to the tradition, despite missing her baby girl, and travels to the shrine of Menakshi to pray for a boy child.
Somehow this just doesn't engage me in the story. I will try again, and if I can stick it to the end, perhaps revise this

The central protagonists character was extremely unappealing, lacked and real empathy, she intellectuality everything g and drained the blood out of feeling and emotion. her autistic twin was a better human and possesses all the emotional intelligence the main character lacks...No character in the novel is fully realized, which makes the novel a tedious aggravating read

Story of Abu Kasaam surgically sews the story together
Revisado: 08-02-24
initially I found the reader monotone, too evenly phrased to create engagement, then suddenly I found myself as if running and leaping across and over each word as over train cars, compelled by the story. The only flaw, or sticking point was the part Stat started with Shiva's surgery and ended in his death, and what I felt was the abstracted , reportorial way he is handled through to end of book. I didn't find it rang true to the story. The subject was 'cut from stone' lacking any mother love.. but the end should have been swollen, ripe, integrated with the twins mothers redemption

Historia
Bhima, the unforgettable main character of Thrity Umrigar’s beloved national best seller, The Space Between Us, returns in this triumphant sequel - a poignant and compelling novel in which the former servant struggles against the circumstances of class and misfortune to forge a new path for herself and her granddaughter in modern India. Poor and illiterate, Bhima had faithfully worked for the Dubash family, an upper-middle-class Parsi household, for more than 20 years.

wonderful narrator
Revisado: 07-10-24
This was a great story, but the end was not earned. certainly the women in all the chapters leading up to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow ending were characters that grew, suffered, change. evolving I
through immense pain, suffering, humiliation, into better human beings with greater capacity for love, but in a world where women are abused in a male dominant society, and old women are kicked to the street to live like rats, it is very hard for me as a reader to accept the are absorbed back into blood family and acknowledge as inheritors of their land andprosperous business and richly validating family business. I wish it could happen that way, but this wasn't a Disney version for 7 year olds

tidal waves of slivery bits of irrelevancies, iron fragments swept in piles by a magnet
Revisado: 07-03-24
did not care about almost any character for longer than scattered 1-5 minutes throughout. I felt I was snow shoveling or clearing tidal deposits. Daniel's character engaged with others does not sych with his "voice" when he tell his bits of the story.
I felt the writing style was inappropriate to telling a story, and allowed the characters no depth

The Light Eaters is a deep immersion into the drama of green life and the complexity of this wild and awe-inspiring world that challenges our very understanding of agency, consciousness, and intelligence. In looking closely, we see that plants, rather than imitate human intelligence, have perhaps formed a parallel system.
