Historia
Empire of the Summer Moon spans two astonishing stories. The first traces the rise and fall of the Comanches, the most powerful Indian tribe in American history. The second entails one of the most remarkable narratives ever to come out of the Old West: the epic saga of the pioneer woman Cynthia Ann Parker and her mixed-blood son, Quanah, who became the last and greatest chief of the Comanches.

A Must-Read
Revisado: 01-12-24
This book is an essential and elegant take on the history of our country that we are never taught. If our educational system strives to teach our children the truth (about anything), then books like this must be required reading to help balance the lies and deceit that our history books sell to our children without a word of apology or even a hint that there is a different view that is valid.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has an open mind and can take the truth!
This book lays a beautiful and solid foundation for discussion at the middle and high school levels. Let your students read this book and engage in a discussion on how the information in this book can or can't be reconciled with the main-stream history books. Let's stop lying to our children.

Millions of people visit xkcd.com each week to read Randall Munroe's iconic webcomic. His stick-figure drawings about science, technology, language, and love have a large and passionate following. Fans of xkcd ask Munroe a lot of strange questions. What if you tried to hit a baseball pitched at 90 percent of the speed of light? How fast can you hit a speed bump while driving and live? If there were a robot apocalypse, how long would humanity last?

Silly and Useless Information
Revisado: 01-12-24
I assume that the author knows that the information in this book is silly and useless, or better stated as the subtitle says in part "Absurd Hypothetical Questions"
Although some might say this book is entertaining, in a "Myth-busters" sort of way, it is primarily boring and uninteresting.
I wouldn't waste my time finishing this book.

Not only can we not currently explain the origin of the universe, it is questionable we will ever be able to explain it. The notion that there are universes within particles, or that particles are conscious, is ascientific, as is the hypothesis that our universe is a computer simulation. On the other hand, the idea that the universe itself is conscious is difficult to rule out entirely.

Very Interesting Take on Science
Revisado: 01-12-24
This book starts out at a very basic level, but not so basic as to be boring or uninteresting. Many of the initial concepts should be taught to our children at an early age as this author has a magical way of explaining science and how it applies to everyone's lives. The author very adeptly draws you into the realm of scientific evidence and methods and then delves into how the evidence and methods support (or not) the science of our existence. I especially like the author's caring and understanding way of explaining science as opposed to religion and myths of common belief.
One take-away from this book is that there are scientists out there who are not judgmental but rather spend their time investigating our universe and explaining it to us non-scientists in a very understandable way.
I would recommend this book to anyone and would invite educators, especially those who specialize in elementary education, to adapt the early chapters of this book to a required curriculum for their students.

The rapture is the central event in biblical prophecy. But what does it mean for us today? How can this crucial end times event draw us nearer to God in a world that is seemingly on the brink of chaos? Political turmoil, economic uncertainty, an ideological divide that feels increasingly impassable—the signs of the times point us toward the end, and that can be disconcerting.

In-depth Biblical Reference
Revisado: 01-12-24
This book is a good review of the Bible as it pertains to the rapture, very detailed and lots of repetition as if the author believes that if he says something enough times, it must be true. On the other hand, I do not fault the author for his viewpoint and his explanations based on Bible passages as this is his deep belief and understanding. I also enjoyed the way the author explained (again using Bible references) why he believes the way he does.
I would recommend this book to anyone with an open mind, religious or not. It is always worth reading the opinion of others.

Historia
On June 25, 1973, a seven-year-old girl went missing from the Montana campground where her family was vacationing. Somebody had slit open the back of their tent and snatched her from under their noses. None of them saw or heard anything. Susie Jaeger had vanished into thin air, plucked by a shadow. As days stretched into weeks, and weeks into months, Special Agent Pete Dunbar attended a workshop at FBI Headquarters in Quantico, Virgina, led by two agents who had hatched a radical new idea: What if criminals left a psychological trail that would lead us to them?

Not Really About FBI Profiling - don't be fooled!
Revisado: 06-21-22
I thought this book would be more about the infancy of FBI profiling but it was more lip-service than coverage. I also felt that the excessive details were included to pad the story so it would be longer than it needed to be.
Other than that, I did listen to the entire book.

Fantasy or not?
Revisado: 02-17-22
I can't buy into this account. Although the trip and the actual bear attack might have taken place, the details are fantastical and unbelievable, especially when under the stress of a bear attack. I commend the author for his prose, but can't buy into the details as related by him.
I would read a novel written by Mr Messenger, but not non-fiction.
Thank you Mr Messenger for an enjoyable "read" (Listen).

Historia
When it comes to climate change, the media, politicians, and other prominent voices have declared that "the science is settled." In reality, the long game of telephone from research to reports to the popular media is corrupted by misunderstanding and misinformation. Core questions - about the way the climate is responding to our influence, and what the impacts will be - remain largely unanswered. The climate is changing, but the why and how aren't as clear as you've probably been led to believe.

A So-So Book with Some Interesting Ideas
Revisado: 02-17-22
As a person who truly believes as the author does that we can all benefit by and from understanding and performing simple math in our minds, I found this book to be interesting. Anyone who wants to learn how to do math in their head needs to get the print version and practice, practice, practice.
I believe that the author has a great thing going, and is targeting the general population, but I also believe that a person needs a simple and basic understanding of numbers before this book is of much value.
EDIT -- as time goes on, I find myself using the author's left to right approach with much success!

Very interesting and well told story of the legal system as it existed in Lincoln's time. Any attorney who thinks they know how the legal system works today needs to understand where it came from and how it evolved. This book tells that story.

Historia
During his remarkable lifetime, Harold Gatty became one of the world's great navigators (in 1931, he and Wiley Post flew around the world in a record-breaking eight days) and, to the benefit of posterity, recorded in this book much of his accumulated knowledge about pathfinding both on land and at sea. Applying methods used by primitive peoples and early explorers, the author reveals how to determine location, study wind directions and reflections in the sky, even how to use the senses of smell and hearing to find your way in the wilderness, in a desert, in snow-covered areas, and on the ocean.
