Good slow burn mystery
Revisado: 04-23-25
Good plot and character development. Narration good. Taylor is good at weaving the last and present into an entertaining tale.

Historia
In a country town, an arsonist is burning homes down. Their signature move is placing an identical model of the house on the front porch before setting the fire. But no one is there to witness this in the silence of each dark winter night. A happy couple is out celebrating their anniversary when they receive a chilling phone call—a recorded children's verse warning them their house is on fire and their children are gone. They race home to an inferno and missing children.

mixed narrators drove me crazy!
Revisado: 03-25-25
I am a big fan of Anni Taylor's Tallman's Valley series. This is the 4th book I've listened to. I do NOT like having two narrators in this one. In one chapter, the voices are one narrator; in the next chapter they're a different person performing. It's distracting and maddening! Please don't do this again. Caroline Lee does an excellent job--let her narrate without bringing in a second narrator.

Love this series!
Revisado: 01-20-25
I discovered Anni Taylor's Tallman Valley series by accident one day while searching for something else on Audible. The first book in the series was good, but this was one outstanding. Love the twists and turns. And I love the narrator Caroline Lee. Her Australian accent is charming and easy to listen to.

Daniel Hecht has created a plausible, heart-stopping ghost thriller. Relying on the science of parapsychology to spine-tingling effect, he brings to life a remarkably compelling character in Cree Black, as well as the ghosts she confronts.

I cannot say enough about Anna Fields' narration and the Cree Black series--love them both! Cree is an intriguing character and makes me wish there were more in the series. I highly recommend this book.

Historia
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

Great narration but . . .
Revisado: 06-18-23
The narration was terrific--made me keep listening. However, has I been reading it, I would likely have put the book down. It was a little slow in the middle and the ending was a bit implausible.

Historia
In this third novel of the Cree Black mystery series, a friend and homicide inspector asks Cree to help investigate a human skeleton recently unearthed in the foundation of a fine Victorian home, apparently the bones of a victim of the 1906 earthquake. The bones have intrigued the forensic anthropology team at UC Berkeley with their peculiar anatomical deformities. They call the skeleton "Wolfman". Who was the Wolfman?

I love it!
Revisado: 05-29-23
After reading the first two Cree Black books in the series, I was anxious to read Bones of the Barbary Coast, but some of the reviews made me hesitate. So very glad that I ignored them, mostly because I love the protagonist and the narrator. Yes, this book was different than the first two in the series, but nonetheless wonderful. I highly recommend Daniel Hecht‘s Cree Black series.

Historia
Nothing in Cree's experience as a Harvard-trained clinical psychologist or as a paranormal investigator has prepared her for Tommy Keeday's case. A talented young Navajo, Tommy has recently been exhibiting bizarre symptoms that his family believes are signs of possession by a chindi, a hostile spirit. As Cree struggles to find answers, she becomes increasingly aware that Tommy and the people who surround him have some deep and disturbing secrets.
